      Had a look but could not see if anyone had previously done this one, so here goes....
      
      This is straight out of the BCS book. I used 20.19 as the VAW as suggested in this post.
      
      Planning to get this on in the next week or so and as I am going on hols in a few week I sould have it into the secondary FV and can then leave it for a good few weeks.

      I noticed you will be using WLP800 for this. Have you used it before at all?
      
      I created a thread about WLP800 which was so popular that nobody has bothered to reply to it here . :dunno: :lol:
      
      I have done 2 lagers with this yeast now, and I don't think I would use it again. To me it just leaves too much flavour & fruitiness behind when I want clean & crisp.
      
      I would really like to hear how you get on with it (I don't want to put you off), it is likely just my tastes that it disagrees...

      PP, firstly thanks for the response. Secondly I must apologize, the FWH in the BIABacus was an error on my part. The Cascade and EKG were added at 60mins, and then some more Cascade DH.
      
      This one got brewed on Thursday last week and I have to say the brew day went really well as even though it was only my second time I felt a lot more comfortable with the whole process. I think I did a slightly better job on the measurements as everything seemed to make sense...

   3. When to use IC

      Have been doing some poking around trying to answer the following without much luck..
      
      Using the copper coil immersion chiller at the end of the boil in the pot or draining the pot to the FV and chilling in the FV.
      
      Using the IC in the pot no only disturbs the trub cone after whirlpool but I have also read that cooling the wort in the boil kettle allows the proteins in the hot break to dissolve back into the wort... Should I drain into the FV and chill there ?

      I have never read that. I bet it's just a I wonder if supposition? I have IC'ed in the past and now only no-chill. My beer (if in style) is as clear or clearer and anyone's. So, since my beer slowly cools than the proteins should be back into my wort? Not a chance! Cold break forms at about 140F. The Irish moss (or whatever) and the 140F cold break...

   4. BIAB Sanity Check - First planned brew

      Thought I would just chuck this one out there... All feedback welcome...
      
      Have been planning my first BIAB brew for a few weeks and have assembled the various bits of kit as follows...
      
      19l Stock Pot
      Vegetable steamer insert as a false bottom
      Large Colander to fit pot for draining
      Youngs Mashing and Sparging bag, fits the pot pretty well
      Thermometer probe and display unit
      15l Fermentation Bucket with airlock
      other bits that i had already (Hydrometer, trial jar, spoon etc)
      
      My plan is for 11l...

      Sorry Tim, one more thing I forgot to mention was that your Mash Volume measurement looked way too low. This measurement is done after you pour the grain in and everything has settled down in the mash. It's a good one to take as if there is a significant discreapncy, you know you could have well measured your water or grain incorrectly.
