      I've been brewing for a while now. I have always used the BIABacus for my recipes. And I have pretty much followed the brewday process as discussed in The Commentary (see ). This includes a 90 minute mash followed by a 90 minute boil, and a 15 minute mash out. My numbers are pretty spot on based on this process. Having said that, I would like to try and shorten my brew day, perhaps starting with a 60 minute mash and 60 minute boil. What advice do you have on any adjustments I might...

      I want to make the simple vienna lager recipe described at Brulosophy . I threw the recipe into the BIABacus and the numbers seem real close. The recipe does not supply the VAW so is there actual integrity, or the #s just happen to match?

      Well, I had to do it. I brewed Gordon Strong's American Brown ale recipe from Modern Homebrew Recipes , but I swapped the Wyeast 1272 American ale yeast for Omega Hothead kveik strain. To ferment, I used 1/2 teaspoon of yeast slurry from the Omega package and pitched into 5.6 US gallons of 1.056 OG wort. I then sat the fermenter on my workbench, in my garage, which averages around 95F at this time of year. In 3 days, the beer reached an FG of 1.012. Packaged in a keg and burst...

      I'm sure this has been addressed before but I couldn't find an answer by searching. The recipe I want to brew calls for a hop stand with 57g of 10.3% AA Centennial, starting 10 mins after flame out and steeping for 20 mins. I'm not sure how this should be entered in the BIABacus especially regarding target IBU calculation.

      It’s a reminder about “recipe integrity” discussed elsewhere on this site. The variables in play during a brew day seem innumerable and any data that could make a difference in the outcome (beer) should be included.

      I am about to brew a second batch of a Golden Strong Ale . My first batch was based on a recipe entered into BIABacus PR1.3 T , and the second batch will be the same recipe but entered into PR1.3 U . However, I am seeing a discrepancy between the 2 versions for the final gravity (as well as the predicted ABV). For PR1.3 T , FG is 1.012 (7.8% ABV) while PR1.3 U shows 1.018 (7.0% ABV).        I finally decided it was time to start controlling the water aspect of my brewing, especially as I felt a had the other main factors under control. Decided to go the route of RO water (from my local Wholefoods), and calcium chloride, gypsum and acidulated malt from the LHBS (yea, I finally have one!).        Definitely something almost all new brewers don't need to worry about however, when you get to the stage you are at, it does open up another world of exploration and fun. The RO world is clean and sometimes too clean. I brew my beers with RO now but some of them have a hollow in the middle of them which I haven't worked out what salt will 'fill' it with yet. I need to brew more often to fix that or just wait for guys like you to teach me how to fill it :peace:.

In my opinion, the result is a flop -- doesn't taste of much of anything with a slight sweet bitter chocolate finish. Recipe called for an OG of 1.54 and estimated FG of 1.009; I produced OG = 1.056 and FG = 1.018.        Isn't the attenuation as expected according to the yeast you've used and the mesh temperature? I've gotten 79% attenuation with the White Labs version (WLP028) of possibly the same strain of yeast, But my wort had a much lower OG, 1.048 and the mesh temp was 64 deg celsius.
       
       Could it be that your beer doesn't have enough yeast esters in it? The style guideline says, Fruity esters may be moderate to none. ( I really enjoy the esters from the english strains, and the times I've used Edinburgh...

       I'm not exactly sure what my original gravity was because I broke my hydrometer right before I started brewing :headhit:
       I have a sample in the fridge, and ordered 2 hydrometers from an online source so I'll post an update once I take a measurement.

       Can anyone confirm a couple of things for me about the BIABacus designs for brewing the Amarillo Ale? Is it saying that for the Grain Bill (C) that I should use only Maris Otter instead of a combination of JW Traditional Ale, Munich 1 and Caraamber? Or just replace the JW Traditional Ale with Maris Otter? Same thing for the Hop Bill (D): I should use only Galaxy hops instead of Amarillo? Or just replace the Amarillo with Galaxy for the first hop step?
