Some of you may of read my first post here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3154 this was my first attempt at creating a recipe from scratch. I gave a few bottles out to family and friends and it was really popular. Even had people coming back asking for more…

I thought I would make some slight tweaks to the recipe and get another batch brewed. Using my new S/S pot and hop filter, I had the smoothest brew day ever. I recorded my volumes for the first time which were right on the button, so chuffed with that :drink:

Kettle Efficiency (as in EIB and EAW): 82.8 %
Efficiency into Fermentor (EIF): 71 %

Note: This is a Pure BIAB (Full Volume Mash)

Times and Temperatures

Mash: 90 mins at 66 C = 150.8 F
Boil: 90 min
Ferment: 14 days at 20 C = 68 F

(Note that VAW below is the Volume at Flame-Out (VFO) less shrinkage.)

Total Water Needed (TWN): 39.78 L = 10.51 G
Volume into Boil (VIB): 35.98 L = 9.5 G @ 1.043
Volume of Ambient Wort (VAW): 26.83 L = 7.09 G @ 1.055
Volume into Fermentor (VIF): 23 L = 6.08 G @ 1.055
Volume into Packaging (VIP): 21.3 L = 5.63 G @ 1.014 assuming apparent attenuation of 75 %

82.9% Maris Otter (5 EBC = 2.5 SRM) 4987 grams = 10.99 pounds
9.4% Pale Wheat Malt (3 EBC = 1.5 SRM) 563 grams = 1.24 pounds
3% Amber Malt - Crisp (50 EBC = 25.4 SRM) 178 grams = 0.39 pounds
4.8% Pale Crystal Malt (60 EBC = 30.5 SRM) 289 grams = 0.64 pounds

The Hop Bill (Based on Tinseth Formula)

32.4 IBU Chinook Flowers (12%AA) 32.9 grams = 1.16 ounces at 60 mins
10.8 IBU Simcoe Flowers (15.5%AA) 17.1 grams = 0.603 ounces at 15 mins
6.8 IBU Amarillo Flowers (8.5%AA) 26.7 grams = 0.942 ounces at 10 mins

Chilling Method: No Cube Chill

Fermentation & Conditioning

Fermentation: WLP001 California Ale Yeast for 14 days at 20 C = 68 F

Secondary Used: N
Crash-Chilled: N
Filtered: N
Req. Volumes of CO2: 2.4

Condition for 14 days.


Special Instructions/Notes on this Beer

Dry hop 3-5 days after primary ferment is finished.
