Burner for 50l pot

Post #1 made 15 years ago
Just been looking around for a burner for a 50l pot. My local hardware only has a 3 ring burner, looks a bit small for the pot, dont want to waste money on some that wont work . Can someone recommend a good burner or will that one do the job. I dont want over kill just something the right size .. thanks
Ah, beer, my one weakness. My achille's heel, if you will..........

I was using a 4 ring burner, with just a BBQ regulator and that had no trouble getting a decent boil with 36 litres of wort in my 50l keggle. Once it's up to the boil I only have to have the 2nd and 3rd rings running to maintain a rolling boil.
I've upgraded to a turkey burner now with adjustable high pressure reg, I just haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I had a two ring burner on a 50L pot. Not up to the job.

I added a medium pressure variable regulator up to 207 kPA, and that will do the job if you crank it... which I didn't really like doing and I ended up with lots of little hot spots from each of the flames in the burner

I've since upgraded to what is know as an Italian Spiral Burner in australia,

or a Large Square Boiling Ring in the UK

but the box it comes in says "Drago" on it ;)

And I reckon "Dragon" is a good name for it ;)

It laughs at 50L, and should handle 100L easily

And the only hot spots are now the from where the stand holds the pot

The real beauty with the Italian Spiral is it pumps out the heat, but doesn't wake the neighbours :)

In fact, the only sound you hear is it sucking in air through its venturi

Its seems to be quite efficient too
