first biab

Post #1 made 15 years ago
I finaly got around to doing my first biab yesterday arvo, i think everything went smother than expected and i realy enjoyed doing it. I've never done AG or biab before the only experiance i have is with brews out of a can so it will be good to be able to compare the difference.

Ive never realy worried about SG before (apart from testing when a brew has finished fermenting) or efficiency so all of this is new to me.

I wrote down some readings to keep record and when i lean how to calculate my effiency i can see how i realy went these are some of my readings:

water into pot = 41L
total grain bill = 6260g
mash length = 90 min
mash temp = 67C - 68C
boil lenth 90 min
Pre boil SG 1,044
post boil SG 1,052
pre boil water level around 35L
post boil water level around 28L

Before my next brew i'm going to do a few modifications to my setup to try and get readings closer to what is in the recipe.

cant wait eventualy i would like to make a brew as close to matso,s mango beer as possible i,m a big fan of it.

Cheers

G'day Rad, well done on your first brew. Beersmith tells me that you got 80.78% efficiency (post boil) on your first go. That is a top result. Most people doing 3v ag get ~65% at the beginning, BIABers generally start around 75%. So again well done.

I'd like to see a recipe for this mango beer, sounds very interesting.

Cheers.

Congratulations rad and welcome to the forum :peace:

Feel free before your next brew to post your proposed recipe to this thread and someone will help you out.

All recipes need some sort of conversion unless you are using exactly the same type of equipment as the person supplying the recipe so don't be worried if you didn't get the same readings as the source recipe.

Good on you :salute:
