Now we all know BIAB makes beer, it you do it all right it will be good beer but it's killing my inner geek.
My poor geek is heartbroken looking at my shinny bits, pumps and valves, weeping over my Arduino n Ras pi.
I got a huge amount of pleasure from building "stuff" for my brewing but stuff means extra cleaning and I don't like cleaning but then who does?
So I'm errrr. stuffed!
My cold side runs on STC1000s so that's done all I'd like to make now is a boil proof auto siphon and that's trivial just a matter of getting a few bits.
I'm going to need an extra hobby..... Knitting Spaghetti anybody?

I must be one of the fortunate brewers to have no inner geek!
Shiny Metallic objects, and complicated electrickery gubbins have no appeal.
Show me someone with a beaten old pot mashing over a campfire and I'm suddenly intrigued.
Maybe steer your inner geek to something else instead of brewing?

Recipe design is where I let my inner geek run free. I'm very good at designing and building things, but simple BIAB is too practical for me to migrate from. Without seeing practicality in a given design effort, it's not worth pursuit to me. However, some of us like the nuts & bolts of it all, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Great post aamcle.
Don't be worried about the circle of life bit. One member here went way more over the top than you have (three-vessel herms or rims that cost him about three-thousand dollars plus a few hundred hours) and now brews pure BIAB (single-vessel, full-volume). He only made the change because he thinks the beer is better.
Note that he didn't make the change because it was easier!

Sadly enlightenment isn't very entertaining even if it is time efficient, maybe I'll take up "junk sculpture" with my shinny bits and wires.

Controller?
I have two one can talk to a PC over a RS bus and can cycle a pump for a BM clone, the other simpler one is just a pid with a ssr and a PWM to control the boil easily.
I've tried controlling a slow cooker with simple box when I was doing a mini mash and it worked surprising me well at holding the set point.
I won some LME and made up a brew with it adding the mini mash and specialty grains it was OK but not really any better than a kit.

I hear ya. Been where you are at.
I moved to another country and left behind all that did not fit into a suitcase. Nearly broke my heart getting rid of my toys.
Now I cherish not having to collect all the shiny's again.
In saying that my pid dies mid fermentation the other day and I seriously considered building a temp controller with my spare Arduino Uno and misc parts I have kicking aroynd.i came to my senses bland purchased a new toy of eBay instead.
I moved to another country and left behind all that did not fit into a suitcase. Nearly broke my heart getting rid of my toys.

While not it's not in the "technical/electronic geek" division, have you tried the "science geek" division in our Yeast specialist field?

I went down that geek path for a few years, set up a HERMs system with extra bells and whistles
even had that shinny control panel so you just had to push buttons
I hated it
I want to get my hands in the pots
I want to do this and that
I love the BIAB approach, so simple and yet we can use all the knowledge we have learned over the years and create great beers
plus I got to put a new router table and jointer table
in the place my old system set

Being a mechanic, my geek side gets a workout 5 days a week.. Brewing & BBQ lets me forget about the cars.........Wife & kids for a couple of days !

my inner beer geek got killed first time I had to clean up my HERMs system
