50L pot, Amarillo Ale, silly 2 ring burner, 6.7KG of grain (HB store decided i should have more beer)
Calculator said I would need 45L of water at mash temps, so i did
I was targetting 1.045 pre-boil and 1.058 post-boil
start-of-boil volume was supposed to be 35.9L, i got 35.3 at 1.047 for efficiency of 80.7 (i was happy with that)
I had trouble with my dual-ring burner (i plan to upgrade to a medium pressure reg, then a spiral burner), and I hadn't re-drilled it, I had to use the lid partially on in order to get a wimpy rolling boil... hope its okay.
end-of-boil volume was supposed to be 23.1, i got 29.5, (probably because of the boiling problems), but I nailed the gravity
I whirlpooled, then syphoned the hot liquor into my 20/23L water jerry with my silicon hose and jiggle-syphon, worked fantastically... and then syphoned the remaining 5L into another vessel... hmmm.... then poured the kettle trub into a jug... 1.4L.
meaning, I harvested 28L of wort!!!
into-cube efficiency was thus 79%, which I'm happy with.
The sad thing is, I now have 5L of wort, which is a nice quantity, and no where for it to go... and its nearly 1am, so I guess the worms are getting it...
Next time I'll make sure I have 5L jerry for any extra... or maybe I'll see if I can maxi-biab a double batch...
Seemed almost too easy
I wont get to ferment this until after the 17th, so lets hope the cube works well
