I couldn't find the answer to my question.
What's the best way to transfer the boil to the cube? Is it safe to use the tap in my Pot? Should I use a hose in it? Or let the boil drop directly to the cube?
Thanks
Hashie, how do you start a syphon (with your mouth?) and have you ever tied some voile around your silicone hose to strain?hashie wrote:Use a length of silicone hose attached to a stainless racking cane.
Easy, simple and no chance of HSA.

Start the siphon with my mouth yes. I know people say how dangerous that is etc. but silicone hose is somewhat see through, it is certainly not opaque. I can see the liquid as it rises up the tube, yes rises, I wouldn't do it where my face was lower than the top of the kettle for obvious safety reasons. Once the hose is all but full, I quickly put it into the cube and let the siphon happen.Mad_Scientist wrote:Hashie, how do you start a siphon (with your mouth?) and have you ever tied some voile around your silicone hose to strain?hashie wrote:Use a length of silicone hose attached to a stainless racking cane.

I use it when hot and filling a cube as well. I start the syphon with a spare piece of tubing attached to a small inline tap, which I pull off once the wort is up and over the pot lip. I then fill a 2L jug a few times and recirculate, I then add another piece of tube that reaches the bottom of the cube and fill as normal.Mad_Scientist wrote:I bumped Yeasty's thread; viewtopic.php?f=53&t=1108#p14731 , he is using it to syphon / strain when it is chilled, BUT can't you use it to syphon when hot also? Can't you also cover the manifold with a voile bag and strain it from pellet hops?, like pictured here. I had no need to vorlauf when I used my copper manifold in my MLT
