You are probably right, I've noticed that if I give it a stir once in a while the temp goes back up quite a bit according to my pot thermo. I've been using this but it doesn't like the cooler weather too much. I was looking for some automation but not quite ready for electric whole hog. An electric blanket does seem reasonable but water and it would scare me a bit.
