The flight from Chicago to San Francisco went well but I am stuck waiting for a crew to fly the plane (if they find one) to Seattle! I will be lucky to get in at 3 or 4 am! Noam I got in on your bus (tour E) I hope I get to the hotel in F***ing time! I hate traveling! This is why I like to travel in my own head! Lots of room and nobody gets in my way! It does echo a lot there too?

It's 4 am and I made it to the hotel! The convention center is huge! I have to wait for a room because it's sold out! I asked to see what room Noam is in? He hasn't arrived yet? I said "I'll take his room" No dice? I am waiting in the lobby for the coffee shop to open. Free wi-fi so I guess I owe them a coffee? I hope I brought the right stuff to get pictures up?

Edit... I did have a reserved room but it wouldn't be ready till 12:00 Noon.

All,

After traveling and not sleeping I took a very welcomed 12 hour nap! Noam and his two friends have a little jet lag but they are doing OK. We traveled all day yesterday on bus going from one small brewery to another. They gave us one beer after another! It's hard not to refuse a brewer who is proud of his work and his pushing his Barley Wine at you. So I didn't refuse any!

We registered for the conference and received a goodie bag of donated gifts. I have at least three small bottle openers. Which is a nice gift since we also got three 22 ounce bottles of donated beer. I have met or at least saw most of the dignitaries in the brewing world. Noam and his friends are going into Seattle to party and will be back for the opening of the seminars after lunch.

The first and most important seminar is on BIAB brewing. Brad Smith the brains behind BeerSmith will be presenting the topic. Noam I and will be there to heckle him if he missteps. On the bus trip I was peppered about BIAB questions and more than once I over heard that "He is the guy who brewed on the lake ice" The internet is making the world smaller. That way we can kill our neighbors!

A 12 hour nap . It's a friggin' brewing conference Bob not a sleep clinic!!!

I hope you have got an iPhone or something and can record the BIAB seminar for us :interesting:. I want a full report - sober - don't fall asleep! :smoke:.

If you see Brad, say hi from me (and tell him to fix that PBV vs OG thing I told him about   ).

And behave yourself! Remember, you are a global ambassador for BIAB. It was only yesterday I was telling someone about you brewing on an ice lake.

Give it heaps ,
PP

P.S. Tell Noam to stop drinking and do a post .

Sounds like you are fast becoming one of those "dignitaries" yourself! Proud to have you as our "Ambassador of BIAB", spread the gospel to all who will listen, Brother Bob.

Hey guys after a few days with Shibolet I have had enough what a jerk!

I am having a great time but nothing is perfect. Some people are not as nice as they could be. Last night for instance. I had been drinking all day in classes and while going back to my room people kept stepping on my hands. On the bright side while going to my room I found at least two dollars in change.

We finished taping the show and had a few extra beers that they brought from Israel. We had a good time and decide to go out for sushi. The restaurant was really Japanese. They had a conveyer belt that took little dishes around like a child’s train set. As they passed bye you just took what you wanted. Each plate was a different color according to the price. I nearly poked out my eye with the chop sticks but I survived.

We have been hanging out with all the elite of the brewing world! Wow, I hope some of Noam and I rub off on them to help them improve?

Thursday was the beginning of the NHC in earnest. I went to the opening with 1800 of my closest brewing friends. I went to three seminars. The first was on brew in a bag brewing. The second was on brewing low alcohol beer (session beers) and the last class was on fermentation myths. During the seminars people scurried around pouring beer into our cups. I don’t know if it bothered the presenters but I thought it was great. The bathrooms were full at the breaks.

Brewing Beer with Fresh Hops
What are fresh hop beers and how can they be brewed? Jamie will discuss the many aspects of this under-researched topic, how to use fresh hops, what to look for, preparing for the brew day and many other topics related to this wonderful annual tradition.

New Hop Varieties

Russell Schehrer, a former AHA Homebrewer of the Year and the man the Brewers Association Award for Brewing Innovation is named after, used a grand total of five different hop varieties the first year after Wynkoop Brewing opened in 1988. Today, the list of new varieties reads like the NATO More »

Speaker(s):
Stan Hieronymus

It’s cloudy and raining today. This is a real Seattle day. There is no need to go anywhere. I have unlimited beer and pretzels here. In a few minutes I will go to the Keynote speech and then on to another class. The rest of the day is negotiating different parties trying to make an appearance at all of them. I have not seen the Israeli contingent today? Hopefully they are not in jail?

I was just in the exhibition hall. All the brewing manufacturers are there. I got a free T-shirt from one of the guys from Brewing TV. I think they thought I would leave them alone if they paid me off. It didn’t work! I stayed and bored them to death.

I just got back from the keynote speech. It might be still going on? The beer was flowing nicely and it caused everyone to be squirming in their seats. I was bold enough to get up and go to the can! If I had to wait for 1800 people to pee first I would die of kidney failure! The last class of the day will start at 3:30 I hope the keynote speaker is done or we won’t make it? Maybe 1799 people will die from uremic poisoning but not me!

I had four seminars today. As the speakers did their presentation the local brewers bring pitchers of beer around to anyone who needs a refill. Thank the stars that the classes are only a little over an hour long. Man, you got to pee when the session is over! Catheters are looking better than ever. I could just use adult diapers but it all Depends!

I have been taking video of some of the goings on. I will post them as soon as I can. I can’t do it now because I am recording in HD and my laptop would choke if I tried to ingest it! As per usual I have pictures of everybody except me. There are some pictures of me on “Basic Brewing Radio face book’s page. I look the same as when I left so it’s not worth looking?

I am about a half hour away from club night. I had my coffee and now I am having the last of my Black Bear IPA. You have to practice if you expect to drink all night! For supper I had the usual meal. Pretzels, cheese curds and sausage from Mullens. At least I won’t have to worry about having to poop on the flight home. I don’t expect to poop for a month or more!

OK! Here is the deal! It is 1:10 Am pacific time. The party is still going strong! I am not! I just had a beer brewed by some Australian guy from Sydney with an Israeli in America. The world has changed! I walked around all night wearing a O’so brewing T-shirt and people stopped me and said they met Marc B. someplace and they like O’so beer? I am in heaven or what?

I was with 1800 people tonight! They were from every state and many foreign countries. They drank the best beer I (or they) ever tasted. I saw no drunks nor inebriated people. I saw only good people who respected beer. Mostly as they stepped over me! There is always some guy to spoil the night! All seriousness aside. There is no sporting event anywhere in the world that is not spoiled by some young punk unable to hold his liquor. It is a total mystery to me that people that have alcohol as a hobby will respect it so much that they can spend the night drinking and remain respectful and courteous to everyone and even say hi as they stepped over me!

Saturday I have “specialty malts” at 9am
And four other classes that have a title that doesn’t make sense? But as long as it revolves around beer I am OK with it!
------------ Update -----------------
left the specialty malts class! The guy was a monotone speaker that trailed off as he spoke. He showed 12,000 pictures of how they processed grain? I hoped it would get better near the end but when he finally mentioned specialty grains he just explained how they processed them. I skipped out of class! This is the first dud class!
