Great photo. The chilling must be super fast. Just run your garden hose through a few meters of snow before it hits the immersion chiller.
Can snow be used as a source of brewing water?
Cube:
fermenter: Sourdough Spelt Ale, Classic Lambic, Oud Brune, Barrel Aged Belgian Dubbel
Kegs: Bob's Black IPA, Blanc Blond, Soda...

LOL! 40 C (104 F) here on Xmas Day and hasn't been lower than 31 C (88 F) for about a week before or since!

LloydieP wanted to come over tomorrow and do two double-batches. I have put him off until next week :).

Gonna brew again this weekend, not supposed to be as cold, but lots of freezing rain and snow forecasted! I picked up my ingredients on my lunch break yesterday, was afraid it might not be safe to pick them up this weekend!

So the weatherman had this wrong, it rained a bit, then turned to freezing rain, then snowed a tiny bit. Now it's about 2*F, -10*F with windchill. Just finished brewing a few hours ago, mashed at 152, was at 151 after 30 minutes. An hour later it was at 148 - so I lost 4 degrees over the course of the 90 minute mash. Not bad considering the only insulation I used was a sleeping bag over the Aluminum Kettle.

Nice work Natept, Beach bum uses parkas to insulate his urns. It looks funny because the sleeves give them a personality.

For me, good insulation is the key and not so much on the side (although it is needed) but on top. I find I lose more heat from the top than anywhere else (I know heat rises). So I reckon if you added a cushion from the background of your pic to the lid and then the sleeping bag over the lot, your temp drop would be lees or nil.

Love this thread! Thanks for the pics natept.

Measured my tap water last night. It was 28 C. I really should get into no-chilling :smoke:

You blokes are mad! Fancy brewing on a frozen lake :)

That is the first time I have seen a gas bottle wrapped to keep it warm.

Well done Bob.

We had a few bottles freeze up on us. At least it was a warm day. Last year the beer had to be kept warm in order to drink it. Can you imagine heating a beer to drink? I put my N/C cube in the car to warm it for the trip home. Next year I expect all of you blokes to attend! I am not the only crazy person here!!!

What's all this talk about cold???

It is now 5:15pm and 38 C (100 F) here. I've also just heard that Perth Bureau of Meterology has made the highest forecast on record. Here's the 5 day forecast from BOM...

Thursday Very hot. Partly cloudy. Min 26 Max 41 (106 F)
Friday Very hot. Partly cloudy. Min 25 Max 39 (102 F)
Saturday Very hot. Sunny. Min 26 Max 42 (108 F)
Sunday Very hot. Windy morning. Min 24 Max 40 (104 F)
Monday Very hot. Sunny. Min 23 Max 40 (104 F)
Tuesday Very hot. Sunny. Min 26 Max 40 (104 F)

FFS! I work on home renos, sometimes in the roof!!!

My own personal forecast is that there might be some posts from PP showing mild to strong inebriation over the next five days.

Better go and clear the kitchen bench so I've got somewhere to put the bottles

LOL shib!

I bought some eggs and two cartons of milk on the way home. Will leave six eggs and one carton of milk outside so I'll be right for yoghurt and hard-boiled eggs for the next week.

Hooray!

After reading 2trout's post I thought I'd post this naked with the webcam on. Enjoy .

Last three days have been 38 / 41 / 42. Next two days' forecast is 41 /42.

I've lucked out enormously. Public holiday here today (Australia Day) so no work. Yesterday and tomorrow I worked/will be working on some things in an air-conditioned office. This never happens.

I brewed yesterday and it was -12 C (10 F). I was complaining how cold it was but at least I could brew beer! I guess I was "lucky"? My N/C (No Chill) cube heated my house and gave back some of the energy that I put in during the boil? Hey you know, maybe I am lucky to live in the North. It just doesn't seem that way in winter?
