Boil Off Rate For 40L Buffalo Boiler

Post #1 made 14 years ago
I've been trying to make my beersmith equipment profile more accurate but I always seem to either come up a bit short or over regarding volume after the boil. It tends to be out by a few liters either side. Does anyone know a good value that works well for the boil off rate for these or already has an equipment profile for the Buffalo boilers working well?

Thanks

Hey rukkus, boil off is hard to nail down. Mine varies from brew to brew and that's after >100 brews in the same pot.
I find that atmospheric conditions change things a fair bit. High humidity will mean a lower boil off, while low humidity will increase the boil off.

Don't stress, find a happy medium and accept that brewing software does not know everything.

Another approach is to estimate on the low side, and then you can always topup your fermenter with a L or two of water to the right gravity
Fermenting: -
Cubed: -
Stirplate: -
On Tap: NS Summer Ale III (WY1272), Landlord III (WY1469), Fighter's 70/- II (WY1272), Roast Porter (WY1028), Cider, Soda
Next: Munich Helles III

I'm lazy though. My keg holds 19L, so I brew 20L, any extra in the fermenter will feed the lawn!
