All,
I listened this afternoon and I thought it was a half harted attempt to satisfy the BIAB people. The show was weak and poorly made because the main source for income is Blichmann engineering who sponsor's the show. http://www.blichmannengineering.com If you click on the previous link both of the guys are pictured on Blichmanns site. I guess I don't blame them. You have to follow the money. I was disappointed and told them so on the follow up comments.

Geez, weren't Mark and Dwayne great ambassadors for BIAB...NOT!

They really didn't seem to have a clue about the method. Not once did I hear them mention, 'single vessel brewing', or 'full volume mash'. I don't think they could have found 2 worse people to push BIAB.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Bob and also to the others of you who have made comments here or on the BN site that might help them improve the quality, accuracy and presentation of future BIAB shows. BIABrewer will also contact BN and other radio shows etc so as they can access better resources and information. Many thanks though for taking up our slack.

The second half of the show was certainly a lot better than the first and John Palmer's comments that BIAB was, "...a surprisingly robust method," and BIAB beers he had tasted were, "inidistinguishable from other beers," were encouraging.

Here's to future shows :),

I found this forum because of the show and I thought award winning homebrewers and authors saying they tasted just like all other beers was pretty great. Jamil does have a blichmann setup so it's understandable that this is something he personally wouldn't do. As someone who have never tried this method though plan to shortly it definitely got me interested.

Interesting Niko, so even though we thought it was a crappy interview with little information, it has got your curiosity pricked.

Just goes to prove that any publicity is good publicity.

First of all, I love the brewstrong shows, although the biab episode wasn't their best work. The basic brewing radio podcast did a much better job with the subject and that's what got me interested in the method. I really have no desire to "upgrade" to a three vessel system. Sure they look pretty, but I get great, consistent results with biab, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Bingo! After 18- odd months of BIAB and 70- odd batches, to be honest I'm sticking with the stockpot and bag as there's not much I can't do with them. The pot is very handy for cooking starters, slants etc too. It ain't broke at all! :P

Hey Niko, same Niko selling hops????

I too was embarrassed after that BIAB show. I am the only one in my homebrew group that does BIAB. They have not complained about my beers, we even used it in our Partigyles gone wild session that was on Basic Brew Radio. But I did have to do some damage control after the BN show. I think you hit the nail on the head about the sponsor's influence. It is great to hear that some people are interested even after hearing the show.

I am on the same boat as you regarding brewing in our small community.
We all have to consider that any bad critique maybe sometimes is biased due (at this case ) sponsorship , money earning reasons and even prestige , I believe in most cases (happens most on forums) luck of knowledge and experimentation .
The solution maybe is ,a very good support from the biab community regarding experiments side by side (that has happen occasionally even me have done "experiments" with fellow brewers in my area)and more scientific approach but all of us in the other side we are hobbyists and with not very scientific background and spare time .
So the method will suffer always of bad critiques and meaningless comments until someone of the "enlightened" authors put a piece on his book (probably never due to reasons stated above) .
Personaly when someone is interested on this method we practice I recommend to him this forum because anywhere else he will be confused and In some cases offended as at the JBK forum incident .

Lucky the hosts were gracious and still gave the method due respect despite the poor representation. Plenty of better, more articulate BIABers in this big wide land!? I thought they could have invited Thirsty to comment given all his posting on Brewing Network!???

...and yes, I'm nearly back! nearly!! ;-)
