Shrinking my brew length.

Post #1 made 9 years ago
I need to reduce I can't get through it fast enough so I want to brew enough to package 12litres, two crates. There is something special about a nice full crate :).

I have a smaller urn, 23litres to the brim with a recommended Max boil volume of 19litres.

Will this be big enough as it is or will I need to Maxi BIAB?

Thanks All. Aamcle

Are you trying to brew quicker or less beer?
Brewing takes time. Small batch or large batch you will have the same mash and boil times.
Without more information about what your plans are and what you have equipment wise I don't think we can help much (yet).
Take your time and explain to us exactly where you plan to go and we will help you get there.
Some people are like slinkies. Not good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

I'm simply trying to reduce the volume of beer I make per batch.

A bit of reading around (should have done it first) and it seems that the small Urn will be suitable for the brew length I'm aiming for.

Many thanks. Aamcle

Its not time I'm trying to save I just want to go less volume per batch.

aamcle,

Look at the web site and watch the video. They are brewing six-packs at a time. You can figure out small batches from there. :P

That kettle size looks to be workable for lighter gravity brews for intended volume, but you will need to maxi BIAB for bigger beers.

Have you tried the BIABacus? It took me just a few minutes to figure it out just by changing a few numbers.

A 1.052 OG pale ale recipe that I have stored, will work fine for full volume mashing. 83% estimated kettle efficiency.

1.070 IPA would require withholding of about 2L from the mash water, and then added back again pre-boil. Kettle efficiency is around 73% for this, which isn't bad for this gravity brew in my opinion.

Bob, I had a look at the video I wasn't sure it was the right one but I'll go back to the site.

Rick.

My Nexus 7 seems to have welded itself to my hand and I can't get Biabacus to run :(.

I touch a PC about once a week to do my wife's expenses...

Your right of course I need to get familiar with Biabacus.

Thanks All. Aamcle
