proanthocyanidin-free barley

Post #1 made 10 years ago
I'm Glad you managed to get past the title

Just wondered if anybody had used this kind of malt before?
If you haven't heard of it, have a look at this info here.

I wouldn't say it is hugely popular, but is readily available in the UK. Is this available anywhere else in the world?
I have 5Kg that I am going to use at some point, any comments or feedback welcome.

What particularly interested me was this statement
“They’ve demonstrated consistently haze-free beer, more flavour stability, increased yield per cask and extended shelf-life: all this without the need for additives or treatments. Additionally there are more malty, sweet notes and reduced astringent, bitter notes in the beer produced with it.”

Quite if the difference is detectable remains to be seen.

mally,

I never heard of proanthocyanidin-free barley before? Somehow I think I may see more on this? Thanks for sharing and giving me more to worry about! Are my proanthocyanidin levels too high? Gluten free and now proanthocyanidin free beer!

I had to LOL at this Bob, I cannot believe there is anything in the world of beer making that makes you worry! Except maybe slipping on ice

mally,

It was about a year ago today that I knocked myself out falling on the ice. I still don't smell very good! (you can ask anybody here) I am brewing a couple of times in the next week. I hope I am careful? The wife is out of town and we live in the country! If I slip I am a goner with the brutal weather!
