OldGit, if you can use a "Hop Sack" like the Porous BIAB you have, you can Squeeze the Hop/Wort and recover a liter or two.

The bag your using sounds like there is a lot of grain Debris left after the Bag is Pulled, You may need a finer Voile

If you have a "Tap", that can Cause quite a bit of wort left in the Kettle.

Look for a Stainless Steel Siphon like http://www.northernbrewer.com/30-stainless-rack-tube, and some Silicone Hose, like http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DYAFIU0/ref=biss_dp_t_asn.

This will let you Recover A LOT more wort from the Trub.

JMHO, YMMV

The 8 litres in the dead space
That's what I have left in the pot after draining plain water from the 1/2 inch ball vavle
A test run making a dip stick for volume
I could tilt the pot after boil/ cooling , but as a novice I would like advice if that's the right thing to do

Wow you are proper hard core, respect
That one leged hope spider is great
Where did you get the stainless steel part from
Also as I have never used anything lick that before, silly question time
What stops it floting up in the boil

Depending on what you use to clean, and sanitize your kettle, Copper and Brass may not be a good thing to Use.

Bleach type products, and Oxidizing Products do nasty things to copper and Brass, and leave Pores to hold Nasty Bugs for the Wort.

Just Like the Crap(a Technical term) that builds up in Taps, unless taken apart and Cleaned.

Copper is used all the time, just pull it out separate before cleaning with the chemicals joshua warns against.

Hard core what? Oh, beer porn, gott cha...

I had fun filming that one. Any other videos you want me to film?

That's a stainless steel garbage (Australian Garbo not to be confused with American Greta Garbo) disposal flange (kitchen sink flange), with a paint strainer bag attached via a ss clamp.

During the boil, it floats, but not above the surface, that would be weird. It just kinda does its thing in there. I would film that, but...I don't get a lot of requests for that.

Oldgit, there are a few problems with taps on kettles. The first is the one you have discovered. The second is that they do provide a place for infections to begin so do a search of this site for early posts on 'nostril test'. If you smell anything dodgy, pull the tap completely apart before brewing. The third is that when you attach them back to your kettle (if not welded) they often easily leak.

As the guys mentioned above, you need either a syphon or a dip-tube attached to your tap / faucet. I have 70 L kettles and one day, must have been drunk, added taps to them. Anyway, that's enough of me complaining about taps :). The following shows what I have on attached to my taps on the inside of the kettle.
Kettle Tap Vacuum.jpg
The connections are only hand-tight, but it will suck the kettle almost dry and acts like a little vacuum cleaner. In other words, it sucks the trub up around the entry point but once that is sucked up, the rest of the trub stays undisturbed at the bottom of the kettle. In my 70 L kettles, this leaves about 3 litres of kettle trub and that is great as it is all crappy stuff anyway. I would not like to see you or anyone else with a 70 L kettle on a normal brew having less trub than that.

How did you fit in there to take that photo?
Some people are like slinkies. Not good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
