In the US we sell hops in 1 ounce (28.3 grams) packets. I am not accurate in hop amounts. It's either a pack or half pack (ounce) for additions. I always round up because I love hops. For those who brew smaller batches a cheap digital scale will do.
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

Good question fongas and good answer lemon as always :peace:.

Don't Buy...

Cocaine scales (small scales that measure about 0.1 gram accuracy.) - they are what I first bought and they are fine but very small and fiddly.

Look at what you have on hand already...

What you have already - for example, lemon mentioned kitchen scales. Most of them would be perfect for measuring hops. They can also be used to weigh out your grains perhaps? If you have a sensitive bathroom scale, you may be able to double-check your grain bill weights with that. Also, the latest BIABacus, hidden in the advanced thread form memory, has a tool where you can weigh things like fermentors, gas bottles and kegs and record the real volumes. So consider kitchen scales and good bathroom scales.

What I have and also don't recommend...

I love my scales but I also don't recommend them because the above combination of kitchen scales and good bathroom scales will probably serve you much better. Couldn't find mine on the net now (mine are 15kg/1 gram accuracy "MPT" scales) but they look identical to these 30kg postage sales.

;)

Excuse the consecutive posts Bob but wow! Over here we have the following...

- Small packs (probably an ounce, can't remember) and that are only labelled in weights with no alpha acid given and usually used by beginner extract brewers.
- Medium packs, say 4 ounces or around 100 grams, that are clearly marked with the harvest year and the AA%.
- Large packs. around 20 ounces, or about 500 grams, clearly labelled again.

Surely there are US suppliers accurately giving harvest year and AA%?

I hope so!!! My goodness!!!

Well I am pleased to hear that. I can't wait to reprimand you though in one of our educational podcasts about the very misleading info you gave above in post #3.

Are you ready for a podcast? Have you tidied your house yet? Changed that shirt? :shoot:

Never mind how Bob's taps weigh, he has arms bigger than Arnie.

Bob can lift a full bag with a single arm, brew faster than a 3v brewer in the snow and has love children all over the world!

Do you mean a hop bag? Wasn't Bob the one that wanted to attach his bag to his garage door opener?

Good idea by the way, but I think my bag is long enough as it is......
