beersmith 2 and AA%

Post #1 made 13 years ago
hi have been doing a lot of playing around with beersmith , i've made my equipment profile and and scaled some recipe and been happy with that but one thing ive had trouble with is adjusting my hop AA% to what i have in the recipe . If i double click the hops in the %/ibu column of the recipe and change the alpha % and click ok it only changes the ibu and not the grams as well . This has had me confused for a while now done a lots of searching around and just cant find the answer
thanks
Ah, beer, my one weakness. My achille's heel, if you will..........

Beersmith 2 will not automatically scale a recipe for you in that sense. You do need to input the correct a/a%, but will need to manually adjust your hop additions to get the required IBU's.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, that is exactly right samuls. I know BIABrewer brought this up in the beta testing but obviously had no luck in getting it implemented.

This is one of the many reasons why learning the basic BIABrewer.info calculator is a very easy way to go. Despite it's primitive form, it actually does the important stuff very easily.

I haven't had a look at The Calculator in a while as I've been helping with the BIABacus. Maybe we can simplify and dress it up a little bit while we are waiting? I've been brewing for quite a while now and The Calculator is still the program I use for my brews. (Well I use the BIABacus Beta now but if it wasn't around, I would still be going back to the Calculator.)

I would definitely not use any other program for scaling and scaling is pretty much what most brewers need software for. (For example, your problem is essentially a scaling one and, software-wise, a very easy one at that.)
