Brew on!!! SMaSH of MO and Cascade

Just got my first brew on (Mashed 10 minutes ago)...1st AG and 1st BIAB. So far so good. :thumbs:
Decided on a SMaSH recipe of MO and Cascade, nice and simple. Was going to do a Larger for a comp but the malt is yet to arrive and I wanted to get started, and I have the house to my self this afternoon so no interuptions. Kitchen smelling like a Horlicks factory. :yum:

All done and yeast pitched, :thumbs: easy peasy even cooked a chicken dinner whilst doing it! :headhit:

Efficiency "Into Kettle" 82.2
End of Boil Efficiency** 79.9
Efficiency "Into Fermenter" 62.7

The amount of Kettle trub suprised me and I probably could have sqeezed out another couple of litres but once I hit the 24L mark it started pulling sediment so I stopped. OG1046 so not bad. 2 points down on predicted OG which was probably caused by my rolling boil not rolling enough,boiled up on an electric hob so it took abit to balance out the heat and my boiling losses were a couple of litres shy.

To say I'm pleased is an understatement. :P :P :P Munich Helles next :cool:

Well done yeasty :thumbs: , even better that you got dinner cooked as well!
The hardest part is waiting to taste the spoils, especially your first all grain.

MO = Maris Otter.

Just checked the FV and its got a lovely clean crust and smells great. JUst got to be patient.

I have one problem though :scratch: I've got 2 1/2 Kegs and 40+ bottles of Kit brew to drink before I start drinking my AG :lol: :lol:

Good on you Yeasty (and you too bionicman) :thumbs:.

All your figures look well within the ball-park. (Good to see you stopped when you started pulling sediment.) On the next one, if you have trouble getting enough boil vigour, float a food-grade bowl on top of the wort to decrease the surface area.

Thanks for the tip PP, I'll try that next time.

I'd just like to thank everyone who has contributed to this forum. Its been a real help in getting me up and running with AG and is a mine of information. A special thanks to you guys who took the time to put the Calculator,commentry and checklist together. They really make it a whole lot easier to get brewing. The check list is a real work of art and made yesterdays brewing session a dream.

Very good of you to say thanks Yeasty. Your thanks and enthusiasm tells us we must be getting a few things right. The quality and nature of posting here is very pleasing to all the moderators and admin.

One problem though with the writing of The Calculator, Commentary and Checklist is that we have looked into these so many times that it is hard to see it with 'fresh' eyes. There are probably a lot of errors etc that we haven't seen so please use the feedback threads freely to let us know how well, or badly :dunno:, these threads are reading. Even identifying some small problem can be of the greatest help. For example, at present, we suspect that the names of the core Master Guide threads (at least The Calculator) should be changed. Doing so will require a lot of work such as editing every thread that refers to The Calculator. We are happy to do this once we get enough feedback so please do as much as you can to contribute to any feedback thread.

Until we get these things right though Yeasty, it is enthusiasm and vibrancy such as yours and the others who actively post here that provide the fuel to hopefully make this site the best it can be.
