Hello BIABrewer.info!!! My name is Ken, I live in the Great State of Minnesota, USA, the Land of 10,000 lakes, more than 10,000 home brewers and a rapidly growing, exciting craft brew industry. I'm also lucky enough to live near Northern Brewer's St. Paul retail store and work near both Northern Brewer's Minneapolis retail store and Midwest Supply's retail store. So I guess that also makes Minnesota the Land of 10,000 Brewing Supplies! :champ: I've been brewing extract beers for about 6 months, with 9 batches under my belt (and, if I don't keep going to the gym, a growing beer belly over my belt!) I live in a townhouse, meaning space is very limited for me, so I was totally stoked to discover BIAB, and a link to BIABrewer.info at the Home Brew Talk forum. I'm looking forward to uping my brewing game without filling what little space I have left in my house with brewing equipment. I'm here to learn, and hopefully one day teach what I've learned to a new crop of homebrewers.
I love the smell of hops in the morning! It smells like brewing victory...

Hello

Bill from Hebron, KY. Just got back into brewing from a 22 year hiatus after my kids got me a dual tap kegerator for Christmas. Figured the only way I could afford to keep 2 kegs going was to start making beer again. Been brewing extract until I heard about BIAB. I have made 3 batches of BIAB. None of them hit the clone I was trying to match, but all were very drinkable. Found this site looking for a BIAB recipe for a club brew out tomorrow. Started reading the forums and can't wait to try out the Biabacus and brewing some of the recipes on here as well as learning more about the BIAB technique.

Hi guys,

Nicko here from North Queensland. I've been brewing kits for years and after joining my local brew club I've been amazed by the quality and range of HB all grain brews. I've been to a couple of brew days now (none BIAB unfortunately) but I figure BIAB seems much simpler in terms of equipment needed, so it's the method for me.

I've just got a 50L former keg that someone converted, I have a bayou jet burner, just have to finish off a few K&K cans then I'll get into it.

I have John Palmer "How to Brew" beside my bed and I'm slowly learning more about brewing.

thank you for creating this site, I've already learned a lot from reading the posts on here!

first beer will either be a Swartzbier or a Simcoe Pale Ale (tried one at my HB club and it was sensational). is a Simco Pale Ale a difficult first brew? I have temperature control for fermenting.

Hi nicko,
Welcome. Nothing is hard when you put your mind to it. The first thing you should look at is downloading the biabacus from here. Then it's a matter of filling it out and off you go. Then you never ever ever ever ever stop brewing.

Ever

Welcome aboard nicko. Do you know Ned Bunyip in far north Queensland? He's a great bloke/brewer who lives up your way.

Simcoe Pale Ale is an easy brew to make as is the Schwarzbier. The BIABacus is a bit daunting when you first look at it so just go through each Section from A to D initially. The help for it isn't written yet so make sure you ask any questions you have on it here and someone will look after you.

All the best,
PP

Hello!

I'm trimalchio, I'm from somewhere near New York City, and I'm pretty new at homebrewing for myself. Most of my experience homebrewing has been helping my dad brew since I was a little kid, and also hanging out with his homebrew club, so I've actually got a pretty great head start in the world of brewing. (Thanks dad!) Anyways, in the last few months I've been putting my own homebrew setup together since I have the space now, and my dad told me about BIAB, and it sounded like a great idea, rather than getting a cooler and doing decoctions and crap... just mash with all your water and pull the grain out like a tea bag when it's done, what could be easier! (I guess extract... but that's only for starters)

Anyways, I found this site doing a search for BIAB specific resources and the BIABacus looked like a good thing to try out since the homebrew program I've got now isn't really setup for BIAB...

I've done 3 Batches so far with my BIAB system, I'm using a chugger pump and a plate chiller with a 10 gallon kettle that I'm heating with a 3500w Induction cooktop. After my first batch I bought some Neoprene lab gloves to use for massaging the grain and hop bags to get precious wort out, and those have been a real lifesaver. Also I'm building a Keezer too because bottling is a total pain in the ass and I can't bring myself to bottle beer. I've got a job (a corporate tech job... just like my dad too...) and I can afford to invest in spending less time packaging my beer and more time drinking it.

nicko - BIABacus Pre-Release is here. Btw, Ned changed his name to Ned Bunyip by deed poll. Serious .

trimalchio - Welcome to the show :salute:. Congrats on your first three BIABs . You certainly have found the right place for quality info on BIAB and all-grain. We'll look forward to seeing some pic of your keezer.

Hi everyone,

I've been brewing for a few years now did one extract batch and then went to all grain. Did a few BIAB batches and moved on to a 3v set up. I'm actually gravitating back to the bag so looking to utilize the site a bit more.

Cheers

jc64,

Welcome! Many people were 3V and realized it's ass-backwards. It took me a year before I was solidly BIAB! I use the mash tun for a cooler!

Funkychef,

Welcome to the obsession. As long as you can fine the grains and other kit in Japan you will be brewing up a storm shortly. The information on how to brew is now before your eye's.

Hi everyone.

I'm from Sittingbourne, Kent UK, in my 40's and still working and have been Homebrewing with kits on and off for about 15 years and feel the need to move on and try BIAB before moving onto All Grain eventually, and when I can afford it.

Picked up a load of info so far and looking forward to doing my first BIAB

Cheers

Welcome aboard Richie,

BIAB is all-grain brewing and it is probably the most superior method of all-grain brewing as all water is added to all the grain used for the entire mashing and sparging time. Anything that deviates from this is a compromise.

So, don't see BIAB as a stepping stone. Instead, see anything else as a step back.

I, BobBrews (the poster above you), and many others began with traditional three vessel all-grain brewing and now only do single vessel all-grain brewing (pure/proper BIAB).

The only way to go from this site is backwards!!!

:)

richiesaps,

Welcome to the "One stop shop to all grain brewing" We have the tools here you only have to use them. BIAB is all grain brewing at it's peak of perfection. There is no next step! All the stuff about mash tuns is wasted time and research. Enjoy all-grain brewing via BIAB.

5.0 lbs Pilsner Malt
5.0 lbs Wheat Malt
Around 6.8-7.2 gallons starting water volume, modify for your equipment's boil off rate
Mash @ 153F for 60 min
Mashout @ 170F for 10 minutes
DRAIN/SQUEEZE BAG!
Start 60 min Boil
1.0 oz. Hallertau @ 60
Cool to 70F
Pitch Wyeast 3068 Hefeweizen yeast
Ferment at about 63F ambient (target 68F internal temp) for 2 weeks
Keg or bottle, force carbing or priming for 2 more weeks

g'day all,

I having been brewing k&k for about four years and have only discovered in the last few months that there is more to brewing. I now have my last k&k batch in the fermenter and will be going all grain from here. BIAB has got me pumped to want to brew every week. I currently put down a 23 litre brew every two weeks, however now and I am planning on doing about 12 litre batch each week so I can progress faster and still have about the same total volume.

I am looking forward to getting to know the BIAB community.

Adam.
