Hi folks

New brewer from London here! I've just bought myself a small BIAB setup (massivebrewery.com) and am about to get started on my second brew. First one's going to be bottled today! :) To be honest, I'm finding all the info out there a bit overwhelming at the moment so I'm just having a go at doing a few brews to get familiar with things before trying to analyse the process and figure out how to do it better!

Oh yeah, my name's Larry, I live in Blackheath if there are any locals out there!

larryh,

Welcome Larry! BIAB is the glue that binds us all together here. Read and brew, then repeat! Simple enough!

Hello all,
I brew in northwestern Wisconsin (Hudson) and found your website from a post on American Homebrewers forum. I am a mom at home and I too made one extract kit (birthday present) and went straight to all grain courtesy of BIAB. I found BIAB through the magic of youtube and a nice Australian homebrew video. I have 3 carboys filled with 3 attempts and get my first bottling day next week. I'm currently working with the idea of SMaSH--single malt and single hop--I want to understand what all these lovely ingredients can do. Finally, when it's -10º C, BIAB is nice to do on a kitchen stove!
Cheers,
Nikki

Lost my BIAB virginity last night.... What a special night ;-)
I'm hooked. But it left me well aware that I have much to learn. It will be a process I know I'm going
To enjoy.

Site looks like it has many answers to my questions. Much appreciated! Cheers.

I’m from York, UK.

Have been dabbling with homebrew for 6 months now, have made 3 brews so far all from extract kits and although they have been drinkable have not quote been happy with them, some people I have spoke to about this refer to it as the extract twang.

Anyway, I love beer, and would love to be able to make my own APA or coffee stout from scratch, so started researching all grain techniques and stumbled upon your site. What a great find this has been, have been ghost browsing for a few weeks and registered recently, so am getting ready for my first BIAB.

I have decided to go down the kettle route, so have a 40 litre Buffalo being delivered this week along with a custom made bag. Plan to shop around for the rest of the equipment I’m going to need and start a batch of Amarillo APA in a weeks time.

I’m really excited about this, and so is the other half as I can stay out of the kitchen with the new boiler.

Heres to the first, of hopefully many, BIAB’s I do inspired from this forum. Cheers!

QuinBrew, MBhops, w6csmith,

Welcome all! I sit warm and cozy in my cocoon in central Wisconsin. I sip a sparklingly clear German Helles. All thanks to BIAB. I hold my beer up to you all and salute you.

Hi All,

I'm from Leicester in the UK and I love beer.

I took up brewing kits just before xmas last year, (coopers diy kit). I've sorted out a fridge fermentation chamber and have now got 5 or 6 batches under my belt. After considering the merits of making a keggle for a propane burner I've decided to go down the buffalo 40l boiler route. It will take me a little while to assemble the bits and bobs but with the help of a few tutorials I should be up and running with my first Biab soon.

Just got to decide on my first recipe and sneak all these new shiny things into the garage away from the inquisitive gaze of SWMBO!

edzki,

Welcome to the forum. SWMBO rules! If SWMBO is happy? Everybody is happy! Brew for yourself but find a brew for her to enjoy? Cider or sour. Mead or lambic? If you make her happy you can buy all sorts of brewing toys! Cheers!

Hello!

I'm from the Indianapolis, IN area in the US. I first found this site soon after I started brewing in the summer of 2011. I was listening to the Basic Brewing Radio podcast about BIAB. Always looking for a more simple way to do things that produces equivalent results, I looked up more about the BIAB method, found this site and decided that was the way I was going to step into all-grain. I did my first BIAB on my 10th batch and haven't looked back. I've neglected to register, but have used this site as a resource many times.

I've got my 44th (Westvleteren 12 clone) and 46th (Maibock) batches ready to keg as soon as I've got room.

I am exclusively BIAB, but I always brew two at the same time to increase my time efficiency.

I am an engineer by day. I tend to geek out on brewing equipment, especially making my own.

I've actually started a blog to document my endeavors in making my own equipment. I'm not here necessarily to promote the blog, but to learn and help others from my experiences with BIAB.

hausofstrauss,

Welcome to the forum (even though you've been here a while). BIAB is indeed the great equalizer. No matter what our skill level or brewing knowledge. We can all brew a decent batch of beer with BIAB! Welcome again!

Hello guys!
My name is Felipe Inocente, and I'm from Brazil!
I discovered this site when searching through google for good international BIAB resources, because here in Brazil there's not a lot of information about this technique.
I still haven't look through the hole forum, but everything that I found was already extremely helpful, and I hope that I can find many more information that will help me start brewing ASAP.
As I just said, I have never brewed, but I've bought all the equipment already, and hope to do my first BIAB batch soon.
I don't work, I'm a chemical engineering undergraduate, and I'm in my final year at college. The reason I first started looking for homebrewing is that my project for graduating here is the design of a nanobrewery!

Cya guys :)

Hello everyone! My name is James and I live in Washington State! I have been brewing with the BIAB method for a little over year now. Although I have really only brewed 4 batches using this method. I like it even though all my buddies or use MLT's give me a hard time. I am not going to let them pressure me into getting an MLT setup. I want to get more serious about the BIAB method. I brewed a couple recipes that I put together in Beersmith but I have not really been happy with how convoluted the calculations for BIAB setup can be in Beersmith. Maybe it's just me and I am missing something. The last beer that I brewed I did not even record the OG or FG, I just brewed it because I needed to get something going. Like I said above I want to get more serious about the BIAB method and start figuring out my efficiency. What software are you guys using for your recipes and how do you scale them for BIAB?

Hi All,

Mark here, from Derbyshire in the UK.

I've been brewing for about a year now (Kit only) and have recently got myself a 40L buffalo boiler complete with hop strainer and a voile bag.

I'm looking at doing a simple brew for my first BIAB so I got myself 4kg of marris otter, 1kg of caramalt and 100g of East Kent Goldings and I'm now in the process of trying to fit it all into the BIABacus.

Hi Mark

Welcome to the world of BIAB, I'm sure you'll feel right at home!

You're on the verge of a great leap forward in beer quality. Take your time to familiarise yourself with the timings and steps involved and then go for it, you won't regret it. Any issues arising from your first brew, feel free to ask.

Welcome Rob and I especially like your 'complicated' comment. This site is focussed on how hard things are for new brewers and has a lot on it's "to do," list and so they well understand your remark above but!...

Often things are missed so make sure you explain what you have found complicated in this thread. Someone will let you know there if they have a solution in the pipeline.

Welcome aboard,

Greetings,

The gift of a 5 gallon brew kit got me through 13 extract and partial mash batches in a year before I moved to AG. I scoped out the additional equipment and costs of following the advice of fellow members of my local HB club, but then I found BIABrewer, and that's where I am.

To paraphrase a saying from my more than 30 years in chemistry labs, "A brew day plus two weeks of waiting for results can save you an hour of reading." Insert values in the BIABacus cells, read more, repeat, brew.

My wife sewed a voile bag for the 10 gal pot and I seared the edges where the loose threads grow - hold a few centimeters of material taut and approach a candle flame until the hairs melt to form an edge that cannot fray again.

Thanks to those who have contributed the untold hours providing the advice to simply make really good beer simply.

The best username was already taken by some guy named Bob, so I chose a common road sign here in Southern Connecticut USA as mine (free advert if I get around to labeling).
