Welcome Gareth, thirdeye and Stuart,

Stuart - yes there is lots of info on this site. Here is a link to some of the equipment recommendations list. http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=53 Personally I bought a 15 gallon pot and am glad I didn't go any smaller!

Would highly recommend downloading the BIABacus software and using it to guide your brewing. Link:

Hi everyone,

I'm Thiago Bardelli, from Curitiba, Brazil. I've been in contact with homebrewing for sometime, and decided to give it a shot myself. Due to lack of space, I started researching BIAB methods, and some google results led me here. This method is not yet popular in Brazil, so I'll need to rely on the experience and knowledge from you guys! Also, I'm a full time employee (ERP system consultant), so brewing is a hobby and a good way to get my head out of work! I'm hoping to get to know you all, and enjoy this forum! Thanks!

Welcome BrandonArm. As one of the really experienced BIAB'ers on this site has said, it's easy to get good beer results with whole grain, and BIAB is the easier form of whole grain.

If you read a few postings up,vor a page up on this thread, some of us have given some good instructions on next steps, equipment, etc.

Best of luck and let us know what questions you have.

Hello everyone,

My name is Marc-André and I'm from Québec, Canada. I made the move from reader to brewer last summer. Since I made two biab brews with great results. I'm building an electric kettle to ease the temperature control and I may post the result of my custom in the upcoming months. It will use the heating element as the temperature sensor to limit costs, wiring and holes in the kettle.

cheers,
Marc-André

Hi All,

I'm Chris, based in Kent in the UK.

A few kits under my belt and an extract brew fermenting as we speak.

I recently picked up a second hand Brupaks boiler and, keen to try all grain, am looking at BIAB.

My brain is fizzing from info overload already, I may need to calm things down with a beer...

Hi All,

Quick introduction. My name is Keith and I'm from Canton Michigan. Been brewing extracts for last couple of years, probably have 20-30 batches under my belt along with quite a few ciders. Most successful, a few were not.

Yesterday, I received my 16 gallon brew pot along with the appropriate Brew Bag. Cant wait to get started. I also have a 2 keg system I made from a used refrigerator. Love the site so far as it seems THE place to go. Thanks everyone for the great info I've read so far.

Headed to the LHBS in about 1/2 hour to get my stuff for the first go at it this weekend.

Wish me luck !!

Hello Hostman, Keith and Ken. Welcome to the site!

Hostman - it is easy to get brain overload, especially when just starting out. Just take it in steps, or "layers", as I see it. Layers of knowledge, stacked upon each other. And yes, add plenty of beer to help soothe the mind... :drink:

Keith - sounds like you are on track... Quick question: Where did you get the bag? Not rocket science but just make sure it is super fine... There are a couple little companies that make these for BIAB, and some people use sheer drapery material and make your own. Only reason I ask the question is some people have got course mesh bags as part of BIAB kit and the mesh bags were not fine enough and let too much debris into the pot. And it sounded like you got both together from a company, perhaps as part of a kit... But even if you did, it may be okay.

Good luck, and let us know if there are any questions! :luck:

Hi guys

My name is Ryan and I am from Brisbane in Oz. New to brewing, having gone immediately to extract and super keen to start AG. Thanks to you all for, firstly, creating BIAB, which makes AG much more approachable to newbies like me, and, secondly, for the time volunteered and goodwill to start and run a forum such as this. Pretty minimal on the equipment - only have a 19L pot, so will start with mini-BIAB, but aim to step up once I have approval from the minister for war and finance. Still reading all the info, but will hopefully be ready to go as soon as I have time off work!

Ryan, welcome to the forum, and good for you!

Credit for developing BIAB and publicizing it certainly goes to a group of Australian homebrewers, especially Pat Hollingsdale (from Perth). There are a lot of us Americans, Canadians, and some Brits (and others) that post on here frequently now too. And we are all just as appreciative to Pat and the other BIAB pioneers that developed BIAB. It saves us all a lot of time brewing really good beer with less equipment than if we had to make the jump to traditions 3-vessel, and brewing a great hobby.

Hi all,
Another Aussie here, from Country Victoria.
Haven't done a BAg brew yet, but have done dozens of can brews, I'm wanting to move up to brew in a bag method and this site seems to be the way to go...
Found it via the Coopers forum here in Aus.
Looking forward to lots of great info from this site and many more great brews.

Bruwa and Brewing Farmer - welcome to the site!

Lots of us believe BIAB is the best way to homebrew... (I believe it to be "self-evident"). ;) There is lots of advice and recommendations listed. If you can, take a look up a page or two and see some of the links posted... BIABacus file for guiding your brewing day, etc. Let us know if any questions

Hey gang,

My name is Mitch, and I'm from Alabama. I have been extract brewing for a while. I am about to try my hand at BIAB. I just ordered a larger brew kettle and a bag. I can't wait to give it a try.

I have been reading the BIAB forum on HBT and ran across a link to this site. I'm hoping that an entire site dedicated to BIAB will be just what I need to fill that gaping chasm that is my mind.

Hallo BIABers,
I am klaus from Denmark, looking into BIAB and I intend to brew in 5 liters batches where I intend to bake the beer (mash) in the oven, pure it into the drain (cool it in drains with dry-ice) and later to semi-freeze-cool the beer to settle yeast before transfring to bottles.....inallan prosuit to cut some time.
Cutting the time down will go nice along being dad and hence able to do a rather fast brewing doing evning time comparied to the conventional brewing! Tis is also the reason for the 5 liters as this aslo will lower time for bottling and clearning etc.

1. Where are you from? Denamrk
2. How did you stumble across the site? Though BIAB search on the net!
3. What you think of it so far? Best of the hop....oh...Top :-)
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using? A few time 6-7 years ago!
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household? Working in agicultural industies!

Last but not least, sorry if there is some misspells in my english, but as said not my native tunge!
Pleased to do this interduction.....good culture!
Klaus

Welcome aboard petemoss, kbaggen and twistandstout. You have all found the best site around for BIAB. Read up, grab the biabacus and play around with it, ask questions, and get brewing!

petemoss - I don't know if we can fill that gaping chasm but I do know you will be happier with the beer you make BIAB style compared to extract.

kbaggen - I hear you on the time thing and being a dad, one of the reasons I love BIAB, not sure about dry ice and freezing beer tho...

twistandstout - glad to see you have come over to the biab side! This is a great resource here, lots of knowledgeable biab brewers around here, and even a few from over on CHB :) You will never go back to extract once you try that first AG brew. Good luck with it.

Happy brewing all!

Hi All,

I did a quick screening on the information in here and I'm glad you all were able to gather all of this in an organized, helpful and wisely way.
I'm Bruno, talking from São Paulo - Brazil, where I work negotiating electrical power substations. I've been studying the best way to set up a small kit in order to brew my own beer in a small apartment and I ended up finding you guys and I'm glad I did.

Hope I can afterwards be helpful for newly introduced to the BIAB as I am now.

Thank you very much!

Hello Bruno, and welcome to the forum!

The information here is organized well, but probably not as well as anyone here would prefer. We all - like you - are productive "worker bees" with jobs and nobody has as much time to put in as we would like. Let us know what questions you have and we will help!

I am sure you can be a good help as well in the future!
