FWH in biabacus

Post #1 made 10 years ago
Hi all. After trying to input several different recipes that call for FWH I failed to get the desired IBU. What time do you or in the box? Full boil time or time it takes to reach boil plus boil time? Just a bit confused. Thanks

What system do you use to measure the IBU of beer.

It would be interesting, since I do not know how to adjust the IBU equations, with out real data.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tinseth formula. If I just add the prefix fw in the box and no time I get no IBU from the addition. Just want to know what time I need to enter.

Ohh, the FWH time Occurs from Mash-out(when the Bag is Pulled) to the Time the Wort is below 67C/153F(the minimum temperature of Humulone/Cohumulone), or after the WhirlPool is drained.

The time depends on How fast your Kettle heats to Boil and Cools to 67F/153F

I hope this clearer than Stout.

I normally add a time that equals how long they have been at boiling point. So mashout to boil, and flame-out to steep/whirlpool are ignored.
It is not an exact science though.

There are forum members here that use a set length of time to calculate steep/whirlpool bitterness additions.
I also think this subject has been discussed previously, but I cannot find it at the moment.

I used to have a desire for FWH calculations to be precise, but now I do not pay it any attention. The difference (to me) is too small to spend significant thought on.

I enter full boil time.

In a rush and keyboard sticking but most of you will not have studied this thread.

FWH'ing has been bastardised in its definition and use. Essays can and should be written on this.
