alanem wrote:Thanks SM for following up after you bottled your brew, as you say there is a lot of unfinished posts that end at bottling with no follow up of how it finished later on (myself included) regarding how it was at opening date, eg: taste, condition, etc. and to read the tips on how to improve the brew, after all a lot of people do follow these type of posts from the start and would like to hear the total end result....
Yep, I love reading the end results. Really pleased to hear that carbonation got sorted. I really scratched my head on that one. I'm not sure though if you got the taste sorted though since this brew.

I really went on the SMaSH thing with the 4 base malts I wanted to try, so I've not taken a second run at anything yet. I've sort of taken the summer off from brewing, cause I'm working on the stove and we have no AC.... it's too hot!

After having samples of my first 5 beers, the #1 batch (subject of this thread) was far and away everyone's favorite. I'm sure it had something to do with picking the most popular base malt and a tried and true NW hop as a first go.

The SMaSH experiments were good for me to find that I do like the Great Western 2 Row, and I also really liked the Vienna. So my IPA used this in about 80-10, with some carapils and crystal 15L to round it out. In the end it was probably too dark for the style, and wasn't happy with my hop choices with my IPA (simcoe & amarillo).

So this fall/winter I want to flush out this #1 batch as a good base Pale Ale, and keep working on a session-able IPA. I think I would like to try a porter as well. The funny thing about brewing is that my taste in beer has changed. I like everything now! haha

I am hoping that my Superfuzz clone turns out well, I want to make a bunch for next summer!
