Pablobattu,Lumpy5oh, tiredboy,

Welcome one and all! There are so many new members that it is hard to keep track of it all! What a good problem to have. Give a man a six-pack of beer and he drinks for a day. Teach a man to brew biab and he brews enough for his family. Welcome all!

Hi There,

I live in Michigan. My son and I have been extract brewing since the first of the year. Thought we would move into all grain brewing until we realized the additional time involved was more than we expected. We brew one evening a week (after work). Now looking into BIAB and found this site.

I am hoping this site will help me in converting all grain recipes into BIAB recipe.

I think new members need to post in this thread before they can start new threads. Just trying to avoid spam I think. You're probably already OK to start threads.

Some people are like slinkies. Not good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

Hello,

First time post, I've download BIABacus and still learning it, im still in study mode when it comes to beer, read first, ask if i can't find the answer anywhere. I have made two extract beers with average...but drinkable results. When I get home from work (in 2.5 weeks) ill attempt my first BIAB. I have a large pot, wort chiller/fermenter and other aquired items....Im still trying to find a BASIC pale ale or brown ale recipe with integrity.

Cheer in advance

hello my name is steve ,im from the uk and have been kit brewing for a number of years ,i have just built an electic 50ltr kettle to have a bash at this biab thing and im looking for a walkthrough to get me started

Post #4938 made 12 years ago
Welcome Steve,

Plenty of info out there and on the forums here. Its a great hobby that quickly takes over your life. You've been warned.
50L kettle will work nicely for batches 20 - 30L. I have a 40L Urn which I use to get 23L batches.
First step is to read up on posts here about getting started. Then its a matter of picking a style of beer. From there its starting to come up with the recipe and plugging it into biabacus.

Hi all
My name is Nathan
I'm from Yass NEW close to Canberra Australia
I have been brewing kits and bits on and off for 6 years
I am slowly collecting all the equipment to start my biab adventures
I discovered this forum by searching for info on biab on AHB Through google
So far I'm in the process of building a keggle I have a 50L Euro keg that I have cut a hole in, a 1/2" ss pickup tube, 1/2" compression fitting and a 1/2" bulkhead fitting

Cheers

Hi All, I'm Matt from Melbourne Australia.
Found this site via Aussie Home Brewer this morning & listened to the Legacy of BIAB podcast earlier today.... very informative.
I've been to a BIAB demonstration at Grain & Grape here in Melbourne that Geoff Hammond was doing. Also listened to a podcast of his.
Anyway, that's about it for now. Looking forward to getting my BIAB brewing under way.
Cheers, Matt.

Hi all!

I am from Allentown, PA and I found this site from Rick. So for, about 15 minutes, I find this site good. I have been brewing for about 10 years now. I started small and then moved to extracts and onto specialty grains and now all BIAB. I am employed FT as an IT Systems Analyst full time. I have a wife and two smaller children (8 and 10). I enjoy making beer, obviously, and the outdoors. I love sports, football specifically, but Lacross is starting to grow on me also. I love projects around the house and making things with my hands (woodworking) and working on my Jeep!

Very cool. Welcome!

I'll bet we know a lot of the same places to grab a good beer. My gf lives in Emmaus, and a few of my friends are Allentown cops. I live farther south, but I'm very familiar with your area.

Liberty St. Tavern is a regular hangout for me on the weekends.

Greetings!

I'm Dave, from Cambridge, Massachusetts in the U.S.A. I'm an engineering graduate student by day, but I fill my weekends and evenings with all sorts of hobbies like roasting coffee beans and building valve guitar amplifiers. I've recently added beer making to that list and started out with partial mash brewing, but I'd really love to transition to all-grain. A few friends with more homebrewing experience than myself recommended BIAB, which led me to this forum. I am a researcher/experimenter at heart, and am quite eager to take on this new challenge!

Welcome dhar/Dave. Plenty of research material on this site, and the experiments can start around Christmas time when you get through all the info on here. :sneak:

Hey All!

My name is Nate and I live in Southern Illinois about 15 minutes from St.Louis. By day, I go about my business as a Certified Weld Inspector for a company called Roeslein & Associates (who just so happen to fabricate all of the support systems from many of the can manufacturers world wide...i.e: Rexam, Ball, Canpac, Crown, etc, etc.) Anyhow...I have been extract brewing for the last 2 years and had begun the process of planning the jump to traditional all-grain brewing. I even welded out a three tier system using scrap handrail tubing. However lately, I have become more and more interested in the BIAB method. I am actually gearing up to do my first batch in the next two weeks, just need to source a bag and some smaller fermentation vessels. I like the idea of doing smaller batches (2-2.5gal) as my current kettle is only a 5 gal. volume. This would also allow me to brew more often and feel freer to experiment with recipes. Glad to find this board on the interwebs and I'm excited to learn this method from a community of folks who seem willing to help.Cheers!

Hello Nate and welcome to the forum

A smaller setup does indeed allow for more frequent brewing and a steeper learning curve. You can also build up a nice variety of different beers.

Good luck in the transition to BIAB, once here you'll never want to leave. It's the easiest way to great beer!

Hello all,
I'm from the west Michigan area where I have fine tuned my passion for great beer. I stumbled on the biab process during a considerably long snowy winter and needed keep our house from turning into the Shining. I have brewed 8 batches so far and enjoy every minute of it. I stick to 3 gallon batches. So far I have been trying a few different styles and processes to understand what works for my set up. I have to say the beer is turning out fine so things are going as well as expected.
I spend most of my day sitting in an office thinking about my next beer. I also have a great family with two young boys that keep me moving and feeling young. They also put up with me multitasking with a brew session and our night time routine.

Cheers,
Tim

Welcome Tim,

After 8 batches, you probably have a good understanding of the basics. But don't let that stop you from asking questions. How else am I supposed to feed new brewers false information? Tannins only come out to play on Sundays.....

Loads of good info on this site, and helpful brewers when you are in doubt.

Hello Nate and Tim and welcome to the forum. I also brew smaller batches on the stovetop (1.75 to 2.25 gallons). I really think you guys will love BIAB (full volume brewing). Pretty straight forward process and fairly easy to pick up. The guys here are very supportive and willing to help you get started.
