Jarhead65,

Welcome to the club. BIAB is all encompassing and all inclusive. No need to try anything or go anywhere else!

(Ask the question again in a different section). It looks OK to me? Get it done and let us know!

Howdy. I'm Joe, and I live in Pittsburgh, PA, in the United States.

I'm interested in making the move into AG mostly because I'm tired of that ubiquitous extract backbone that's been in all of my beers to date (I've been at this for a couple years now). After doing a fair amount of research, BIAB seems like the way to go. I'm especially intrigued by the idea of doing some three gallon batches--mostly because I'm not interested in buying a larger kettle, an immersion chiller, propane burner, and any other "stuff" it seems like you need to do the standard 5-gallon batch size, but also because I'm pumped to try a lot of different recipes with the new method.

This site was referenced by some folks at homebrewtalk.com as a good place for a calculator to determine mash volume and sparge volme (if that's your thing) to hit your ideal pre-boil volume. I'm an editor by trade, so math isn't exactly my strong suit. I'd love to practice on a smooth oatmeal brown ale for drinking by mid-April, and then I'm anxious to set aside a Saison and a Hefe for an annual gentlemen's weekend in early July (These fellows have had a quite a few of my extract brews and been pleased, but I'm hoping to deliver a superior product and raise some eyebrows at this year's festivities).

JoeyD,

Welcome Joe! Lots of brewers are doing 3 gallon batches for various reasons. From three you go to five. From 5 you go to 10. Then you turn pro brewer and the size is unlimited. We here usually do 5 gallon (19 liter) here so if your doing 3 gal? you will have to adjust. Look into BIABacus for doing conversions. It's the greatest free brewing software for BIAB or 3V!

Hey there everyone.

My name is Joe and i'm an android App Developer. Currently i'm working on my homebrew app called Wort. At this point it has a lot of calculators and a recipe creation tool.
Currently the calculations are only for Batch sparging. I have received a few Emails to add BIAB calculations. so I join the forum to get a feel for what people need, and the differences between Batch and BIAB are.
I'm looking at the Biabacus tool right now, and I'm wondering, of the calculations that the tool provides, which ones are you looking at most?
Lets say you see a recipe in a book or from a website, you enter it into any brewing software. At that point, Do you just need to do some calculations to find out how much water you need, and you are good to go?
Personally, I think the best way for me to understand the whole process, would be to brew a batch using BIAB, And I will, but I would like to start to get moving on adding these calculations to my app. I've developed the app for the homebrew community, and I'm trying to give back the best that I can.
so if someone would like to help me understand the process a bit better, and what numbers I should include, that would be great.
If anyone would like to check out the app, you can get it on the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... signs.wort
Take a look, let me know what you think, and how I could make it work better for you, and I will definitely add those features!
Thank you everyone.

Joe

Hello,
Mark from Boston, Ma. Getting back into brewing after a 10+ year hiatus. A lot has changed for the better in homebrewing. After much research on process and equipment, i've decided that BIAB is the way to go. Have an extract batch fermenting and am planning my first BIAB day. Most likely do a Sierra Nevada Pale ale or Lagunitas IPA clone. Wish me luck.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi - my first post
I'm from Derby, UK
I'm a computer programmer but getting ever closer to retirement, 59 yrs old.
I have done a little extract brewing and was looking to move on to All Grain, and whilst looking for equipment and reviews came across this site.
It certainly seems very informative from what I've seen so far, so guess I'll stick around for a while :)

Hi! I'm Linus, an illustrator from Stockholm, Sweden. Found this while searching through the huge pile of info and different brewing techniques that are available out there, and hopefully this could be a helpful hand!
I've tried some extract brewings before, and yesterday I failed considerably with my first try at biab due to huge miscalculations
