Good Day Wild Woods, Welcome Aboard, BIAB is the easy way to brew, and you could most likey CLONE any beer made.
Look around the Net, and find many clone recipes, and we can help scale the brew for BIAB.

Hello, Everyone!

I just got into extract brewing and already want to do AG! I stumbled across this site earlier today after my LHBS told me I should give BIAB a try, since i wasn't interested in dropping $300-500 on equipment. It's a bit interesting trying to convert everything from metric to (whatever my units are called here in the US). I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. I have a 35 qt. Aluminum "turkey fryer" kettle with a propane burner for mashing. I also have a 12 quart aluminum kettle I can use for boiling sparge water.

I like hoppy beers and would like to learn either mini-BIAB or maxi-BIAB and start brewing some consistent batches.

Good Day Daddyo, Welcome to the Forum. Great to hear your going BIAB!

Your two kettles are perfect for for MAXI-BIAB, or if your wanting to make a single case of beer, MINI-BIAB in your 35qt kettle is easy.

Look around the Site, and if you have questions, let us know.

Don't worry about the Metric/US measument system, ONLY the US does not do Metric!!!

Thanks Joshua.

Y'all are very kind.

I tested my burner and 60l (15gal) kettle today and all went well. I still have eyebrows.

I have a huge piece of Voile fabric for my bag. Do I need to sew a bag or can I just line my pot and gather the excess fabric outside the the pot?

I am from Canada and an experienced homebrewer. I have recently tried BIAB and am getting good results. I have a question about efficiency with this method and was hoping to get some experienced advice on the topic. I am not sure why I can't post to the relevant forum.

Valvefan look herehttp://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=846to see my wind screen. The pics were from last summer. This winter I used my garage when it was really cold and only needed the 1 bag. When it was only around 0C to -15C I worked outside with 3 bags.one is stuffed into the top of the tube and 2 around the outside and would lose about 3 degrees every 45 minutes. This tube works great,it acts like a chimney and the heat channels up the side of the kettle before blowing out onto my neighbors yard.

Ello all,

first post here, only found this forum a few hours ago from a link on another brewing forum, I have almost got to bottle my 1st kit brew and am already thinking about going AG (It just looks like more fun & makes better beer :) ) I am based in South Wales (Near Cardiff) IT Manager and am 34 years young.

I like the idea of going AG but really cannot fund a full shiney set up at this stage, then I read about brew in a bag and found your lovley forum :)

I will no doubt ask loads of "stuid" questions and not neccesarily read things properly the first time

I have an interest in Landrovers and VW's, spend far more money than I should on Airsoft & now I have discovered brewing (not to be mixed with airsoft though or it could be bad...) 1 wife, 3 kids (12, 8 £ 3) 1 whippet, 2 snakes, 2 madagascan hissing cockroaches & 3 rabbits. When I am not doing any of the above I dabble in website design.

Think thats about all for now :)

Cheers
Colin

Good Day Colin(BrotherMalice), Welcome to the Forum.
BIAB is the best way to Brew All-grain. If you have a large Kettle about 40 liters you can get a voile bag and be brewing BIAB.
If you have a 30L kettle and a 12L stockpot, your in business.
If you only want to brew 10-12L at a time, BIAB is the way to go.

In this Forum there are NO "new-bees", or Stupid questions, BIAB is still quite NEW, and many things that seem "stuid" are not. So if your open to new ideas, and let OLD ideas die, this is the place!

Hi all,

I'm Mike from over the ditch in New Zealand.

From a few extract brews over the years, I've never been happoy with the result. I've now done 2 BIABs and they have both turned out fantastic! Keen to learn heaps about BIABing in general.

Cheers.

Hi all,

My names Jack and im from Tassie. Have been collecting all the gear i need to do my first ebiab. Very exciting after having done 30+ kits and bits and extract brews. I have been reading up on ag for about a year or so while i saved for my shiny new 40ltr crown/mill etc. Hopefully be putting my first biab down in the next week or so. Have a few queries about no chill hop schedules. Happy brewing!

Good Day Jack(HiJax), Welcome to the Site.
Good the hears your ready to BIAB! The 40L crown is a good Urn, and many here use them, So there is a lot of information.

No chill hop additions, due to the slow cool down usually Flavor are at 3 or 4 minutes before flame out-and up to whirlpool. About 10-20 minutes in the wort.

Aroma hops are many times dry hopped in the fermenter, Some make a french press hop tea into the fermenter.
You can Post the question in the "Creating Wort - Mashing, Boiling & Hopping" topic... http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=41, and get much more data.

We answer posts all day. So, if you have more questions just post!

Hi all,

Im an Aussie from NSW and have been brewing for about 5 years now but have recently 'upgraded' to all grain BIAB. I was treating the BIAB as a step up to a three tier system but have been so happy with the BIAB results thus far, I am in no hurry to move on!

Looking forward to sharing penty of tips and recipes with you all.

Hey Joshua:

Canada calling here. I have come the other way in my brewing. I have been an all grain brewer for some time now, using a lauter tun and HERMS system, both of which have a large PITA factor. My highest efficiency was 75% - 80% with these systems and I got to dreading brew day because of the work.

I switched to BIAB with the last two brews. I added a recirculating pump to carry the wort from the bottom to the top of the mash, and a rinse sparge with half of the water in a separate pot. My efficiencies have been in the 85% - 90% range and the first brew was amazing (still aging the second). BIAB is the end of the line as far as I'm concerned. It is simply the best method I have tried.

Cheers

bcull,

Now pass along your enthusiasm to any 3V brewers you know! It's a lot more fun brewing when you are contemplating new and exciting beers rather than dreading clean up! I am about to leave for a club brew day at a members house. I brew two beers (w/no chill) while the Luddites brew one with 3V. I don't get arrogant or condescending but I quietly mention both beers when they ask "what are you brewing today?" They watch and they see that I am cleaned up when they are but have two brews to show for my day! Brew on!!!
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

Wow Bob. You have brew clubs in Wisconsin? Nobody up here (probably actual down here if you are in the north of the State) brews their own beer. I am a club to myself and rather envious. I do have buds to share the final product with and they get to hear me blather on about how I accomplished the brew. Ah well!

What is 3V BTW? I suspect it is shorthand for lauter tun and HERMS and RIMS systems?

Cheers
