Welcome colorado_brewer,

This website is the number one place for brewing information. Why? Because we are all here to help each other brew better beer. Please ignore post's from BobBrews he is the only guy here that is totally clueless!
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

Hello everybody!

I'm from Italy, actually an extract brewer and very interested in BIAB AG!
I've got a lot of infos reading this great forum, thank you.
My main problem is... the bag! I can't find a shop here in Italy, or even in Europe, that sells specific BIAB bags. :dunno:
So maybe I'll try to find someone that can make one for me...

Welcome to BIABrewer Zelig :peace:.

I'm trying to remember if we have any other Italian members as yet - you could well be the first .

Have a read of this post re bag designs.

Another possibility is that you might be able to get a bag mailed to you from another country as the postage is very cheap for bags due to their light weight and compact size. I'm pretty sure EoinMag offers this service so perhaps send him a PM?

Best of luck with your adventures,
PP

Thanks! I've read that post already, but sewing is not for me, not to mention finding the right material.
But I didn't know about EoinMag's wife "shop"! That's really interesting. I think I'll place an order there!

Hello BIABers!

I'm from the UK, a village in the Kent countryside to be more precise, not far from London where I work.

I brewed kits for a while in the early 90s, they mostly tasted awful. Not sure if that was down to me or the kits, probably a bit of both.

Started up with kits again a couple of years ago and was very impressed with the results, so much so that I soon had 4 kegs and a couple hundred bottles on the go!

I've experimented a lot with hops and different fermentables in the kits but always wanted to move to AG as the beer still didn't quite feel like it was my own.
I was only aware of the 3v method though and didn't have the space, time or money for the equipment.
I stumbled upon this site the other day while on another brewing forum, I can't believe I haven't heard of this method before! I have all the equipment except for a 19L pot, I could have been doing this for the last two years!

Welcome to BIABrewer.info Mikale,

The site has been quite under-staffed since its inception. We have, so far, always been catching our breath. A few weeks ago, RedBaron joined the admin team and noticed that the search engines were only seeing a few of the pages here. This has been corrected and now referalls from searches have jumped from 14% to 49%. It is no wonder you had problems finding us!

We have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes for quite some time now - more so than usual. Once completed, the site won't look very different but the entry to it will be easier and the initial information will be of far higher quality. In the meantime, I think you'll find that the existing members will fill in all of our existing quality gaps.

Those of us on the administrative side truly enjoy this site. The culture that members from across the globe have created here is faultless. We are doing the best we can to catch up with them.

Regardless of what we do, the site will always need heart. Most of the first posts above show this so thank you for taking the time to find us and post above.

Happy brewing,
BIABrewer.info

The amount of information on here already is awesome, I definitely feel confident enough to do my first BIAB after reading just a few pages!
Unfortunately it won't be for a few weeks yet though

1. Where are you from? Chicago, IL
2. How did you stumble across the site? Beersmith podcast
3. What you think of it so far? Think it will be great to support a foray into AG
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using? Yes, half a year. Doing Extract, but no longer using kits. 6 batches to date. Just built a fermentation chamber.
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household? I work in finance.

Hi guys

I've been brewing kits and extracts with a few add ons for about three years. Most of the time had success but every now and then ended up with some nasty fruity off tasting beer as well. I'm trying to improve my odds a bit and get the most of my kegging setup.

I'm in Mornington Vic.

Cheers

Andre

G'day drdeco,

Do you use temperature control when fermenting?

Gday

Oh well sort of. I have a wine cooler fridge that i set and forget on 15-16oC. I've used it a couple of times and the last time I dont think it helped much.

I just bought one of those temp mate controllers from ebay. I received it last night and realized that its the low end version with no dual heat/cold control. I am not sure if I will hook it up to cold only or just order a new one as I have a heating pad as well.

Thanks mate

Andre

Tom from Orlando. Got the link to this forum through homebrewtalk.com.
Did my first BIAB two weeks ago. Started with bad input into beersmith regarding the equipment profile and came up way short of my final batch volume after the boil, so I had to top off quite a bit. OG before pitching was also low, but not completely out of range, so I went ahead and pitched. I figured hops utilization is likely to be the only real victim in the mistake, so a redo of the recipe using the correct pre-boil volume will likely result in some difference, but if this first BIAB turns out drinkable, I'll just chalk it up to learning, and if it isn't, it's only a 2-1/2 gallon batch, so not much loss financially.
Anyway, glad to have found this forum. BIAB scratches me right where I itch . . . lower cost utilizing fresher ingredients.

I'm currently in Charlottesville, VA - interested in learning more about BIAB - gonna use this as move away from all-extract brewing (done 2 partial mashes so far) - been brewing for almost 2 years now

Post #1248 made 14 years ago
Hi all. this is my first post. I have done 4 or 5 biab partial mashs and am about to try my first complete all grain biab. Have one question. Would there be any advantage to removeing as much of the chafe ie: grain husks as possible first ? Haven't read anything about this but believe it would help lower off tastes.
Oh B4 I forget I live in Michigan USA. Have been brewing on and off since the mid 80s. Started out w/1 can kits and corn sugar, progressed to kits in a box then to my own concoctions. Beer improved greatly w/ partial mash and all grain but need to save time and space soo have gone to biab.

Joining from Japan. Been brewing for two years, used BIAB to slide into AG brewing last year. This site was very helpful in the transition. Looking to move now into electric BIAB and more consistant batches.
