Help for a moteuka pale ale recipe

Post #1 made 11 years ago
Hi all,

I had a really nice pint which used moteuka hops so thought I'd give the hop a go. Can anyone advise on a pairing hop? I've got some east kent goldings and some challenger hops left from previous brews but happy to buy different if that'd suit better?

In terms of grain bill what malts would you use as a guide? Again I've got some Bohemian pilsner malt, crystal malt and some flake oats left over from previous sessions. Any advice much appreciated! Open to any suggestions...

Thanks all,
James

Hi James

You could do a SMaSH with just your pilsner malt and moteuka hops or use the challenger as a bittering hop with some crystal for colour.

You could easily adapt this Coniston bluebird recipe Heremaybe using the moteuka at 15min and another addition at flame out.

:luck:

95% Pils, 5% Crystal
Magnum at 60 minutes for a total of 1/3 total ibus [because it is a very clean bittering hop]
30 min Moteuka 1/3 total ibus
10 min Moteuka remaining 1/3 ibus
0 flame out 20 - 60 grams depending on the OG of the beer.

Transfer those values to Biabacus and you will have a nice ale.
If you can get some acid malt, add about 100 gms to your grain bill.
Will take 4 - 6 weeks minimum to smooth out.
