Hi there pk ;),

What's your set-up and process now? Kettle size, electric or gas, chilling/no-chilling, current syphon, hop-sock (yes or no), whirlpool (yes or no) etc,.

In other words, there are a few ways to skin that cat but some are better than others depending on your situation.

PS Last post I can do here today but I reckon you'll get several good suggestions. I would avoid installing a tap in most situations. When they are used/appropriate, certain things need to be realised. Maybe someone can point those out if they get a chance?

pkearney,

I use a tap. I never have cleaned it. I have never had a problem with it. The tap and pick-up tube are above most of the trub. If you install a tap on a keg make sure the tap is not above a hole or opening at the bottom of the keg. The flames will find the hole and make the tap hot! I have never put a tap on a simple pot?

There are crazy people here that don't like taps. Don't mind them. They are good people, just crazy!
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

Sorry Phill, what I meant there was, "What are you currently using to get your wort from the kettle to the fermentor?"

Phill, don't listen to Bob. He is a pensioner and all pensioners are on drugs :). When he says his beer is great, he is probably just hallucinating okay?

Taps

If Bob wasn't so busy being a pensioner and taking drugs, he would have had time to tell you the following :)...

"Do a search on BIABrewer.info for PistolPatch's posts that contain any of the terms...

deadspace
lost 1,500 litres
ball-valve
sphere
tap

I have to race again now but doing the above should find a post or two that gives some very good reasons why installing a kettle tap needs to be treated as a serious step that could actually not serve you very well.

PS Bob lives near the North Pole so is less likely to get an infection in his tap than those of us who don't live so close to Santa Claus. (What do you reckon Bob?)

pkearney,

I warned you about crazy people! Look at my tap here http://www.stempski.com/biab.php

Don't mind PistolPatch. :argh: He has spent his life walking upside down (down-under) So his thinking is sometimes backwards (or reversed) not sure? You can always add a tap later on if you want to try it but it's hard to remove once it's in. I love the tap for convenience and wouldn't be without it.

Thanks Mad_Scientist.

I have to redo it a bit and a full video is in the works but I have had a busy spell lately and haven't got back to it. As Summer unfolds I will finish it. Summer is so freaking busy with parties, graduations, holidays, out of town visitors. Not to mention brewing events and just brewing! My garden is a mess and (she who must be obeyed - SWMBO) will press me into action. Maybe snow and cold has it's good points?

Bob - sorry I didn't notice your tap on the website, it seemed to be obscured by those "huge arms".

pkearney - you could try reading about the jiggler. attach to some silicone tubing and syphon away. Some have good results with it. YMMV
