Blow off tube blocked

Post #1 made 9 years ago
Hi new brewer here, only 4 batches so far. I broke my second hydrometer so I waited for a new one to arrive before messing with my carboy. When I removed the blow off tube after a week, I found it blocked with 10 inches of crud. Is this really bad?

Welcome aboard gstojk,

That's no problem. If you had no blow-off tube, all that gunk would be on the inside of your fermentor. Might be worth throwing that one out though if it is too hard to clean etc and on the next one, perhaps change it after high krausen so as you can clean it before it dries out.

:peace:
