The recipe was the NRB APA things went well till the thermal protection on my extension lead cut in (I hadnt unwound the cable fully) it only took 5 mins to get things moving again.

I am struggling to work out my efficency if anyone can help or point me in the right direction please do!

Pre Boil vol=28 litres, Pre Boil gravity@ 20c = 1052
After Boil vol=22.4 litres, After Boil gravity@ 20c = 1064

I only got 20 litres into the fermenter as I lost a couple of litres to trub (I hadnt expected this) but I topped back up to 23 Liters and pitched at 24c the gravity was 1057 just before pitching yeast.

Anyway many thanks again!

Paul.

Great post Cotti7, looks like you have it well sorted.

I like your "sky hook", does it have a ratchet lock to make it easy to suspend the bag?

As to your efficiency, we need to know grain weight, end of boil volume and end of boil gravity to be able to calculate it for you.

Well done.

hey ty for the kind remarks!

The pulley is part of a cheap bike hoist and yes it has brake so I can easily move bag to whatever level without tying off.

The grain bill I used is

4.81kg Marris otter
0.96kg Munich 1
0.48kg Amber malt

After boil volume was 22.4ltr, After boil gravity was 1.052 at 20c.

Many thanks

Paul

With those figures and using Beersmith, I get your efficiency at 60%.

If the 22.4 was what you put into your fermenter then the efficiency figure is fine. If it is the volume in your kettle post boil, including trub, then you have some work to do.

But don't stress, you will still have a great beer to drink and lots more brews to refine your craft.
