First Brew, cloudy beer = bad beer?

Post #1 made 11 years ago
Hey guys, I bottled my first beer 4 days ago and just opened one bottle (I was really curious) and, of course, its not fully carbonated, but it's also VERY CLOUDY. And I am kinda lost about what I can do now. Is it gonna stay cloudy forever? Should I do a cold-break for a week?
Well, my recipe:

Belgian Blonde Ale, 9L batch
Pilsen 2kg
Munich II 208g
Biscuit 69g
Melanoidin 46g
Sugar 137g
Styrian Golding 20g , 60min
Saaz 10g, 30min

I fermented it for 7 days, ~23C, and primed and bottled it, now has been 4 days at ~21C.
Thanks guys!

4 days after bottling, it may be half way to Carbonating. if the Temperature was 72F/23C.

Bottle Carbonation takes me, 10 days to 2 weeks, to finish at that Temperature.

The Cloudy may be Yeast, or maybe Chill Haze, if the Bottle was about 50F/15C.

andreeccel,

Let it sit and rest as Joshua said. If the chill haze persists. We can help. Meanwhile search for chill haze on the internet and you can find pod-casts and written material.
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

I will do more research so. Thanks for the fast replies!
I just opened one because I was really curious hahaha, I will keep the bottles quiet then. After they are done, I will post here how it was :D
Thanks again!

Well, I waited almost 2 weeks for carbonating and the beer really cleared up :)
The problem was the when I opened the bottles, they were almost a bomb HAHAHAHA I am pretty sure I did not messed in the priming, so I think it happenned because I did just a week in the primary fermentation.
Well, I really learned a lot in my first brewing, now I am rebrewing the same recipe.

1 week in the primary? It was still fermenting when you added MORE sugar and then bottled it! Patience is a virtue, Grasshopper (and necessary for becoming a brewer).

Lesson learned?

Give it a month, most (read all) of mine have cleared to crystal clear within a month.

Even if not it will not affect the taste

Be careful with those bottles andreeccel, as its likely you have over primed they are potential bombs and should be treated as such. Keep them at arms length and consider wearing safety glasses when handling them.

If they are super lively you could chill as low as possible then open them and re-cap.

:luck:
