   In relation to some of the above, have a read of How much beer can I get from my kettle? That's any knowledge (hopefully a tad of wisdom as well :think:) I have, distilled for your reading pleasure :).

   Hi guys,
   not sure if this is the right forum for this post, feel free to move if its not.
   
   I plan on moving to biab from kits in the next few months and am in the process of putting together the kit I need. I've got a kettle, made a wort cooler but still to get my burner. I've had a look at BIABacus and get the jist of it but am certainly not happy that I can put a recipe into it to scale to suit me.

   I've just come back from a week in the US and while I was there I discovered a bottled beer from the Brooklyn Brewery, I think it was called Brooklyn Brown Ale. I thought it was really really good. I'd never tasted an American Brown Ale before.
   I've only recently got into BIAB and on my next run I'd like to do a similar American Brown Ale.
   Does anyone have any recipes that are similar to this beer?

   I brewed this a couple of times, many years ago. It's something I'd like to brew again. Once, I doubled the recipe for the same volume and ended up coming in at a 1.080 OG, it was so well balanced that one 12 oz. glass got my gf passed out.

   The recipe being brewed is Old Treacle Mine from BCS, so I can't really post my file until we figure out how to discuss those recipes legally. We'll have to work around that.
   
   I have this on deck to brew next week, and I've chosen to ferment with Nottingham as it is one of the options listed. I want to have an Erlenmeyer flask and stir plate before I get into liquid yeasts, so hopefully the Notty will produce good results.
   
   I will add the optional 1oz of oak (probably French to keep it subtle)...

   Thought it was about time I started some payback. Below is a Fullers ESB clone I've just done. Its just finished fermenting so not had chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes. Hit the numbers OK so just need to add gelatin and crash and then dry hop - all in time for Xmas hopefully. Cheers !

   Got the London Pride Recipe from Graham wheelers book good solid basic recipes you will probably like his Marstons Pedigree recipe I had great success using Mangrove Jacks Burton Union yeast but the best ever when funds allowed was with Thames Valley 1275.
   Remember the Timothy Taylor Landlord from my local in Gloucestershire many many moons ago might give it ago myself one day.
   These beers are so lacking from our supermarket shelves :roll:

   Yeah, it's not as high abv as the original (that's nearly 6% which is a bit high for me). I do like their Quickchange too. Lower abv than supercharger. Not sure of the recipe but they do list the hops on the label so you could do a base apa then use their list of hops as a guide. Cheers

   Hi all! I'm a new BIAB brewing looking to start out with a simple 9 litre APA recipe using pale ale malt and citra. I want to emphasize the taste of the hops without going overboard into IPA territory.
   
   It's all new to me so if I've missed out something big please let me know.
   
   My main questions are:
   
   Should I dry hop? Maybe an oz?
   Is the hope schedule appropriate?
   Is the mash temperature appropriate? The strike temp seems a little low?

   To add to the above I would leave the default BIABacus settings alone to begin with and just measure what your actual volumes are. The main volumes you need to look for are the amount of water you start with, the amount of wort you get into your fermenter (VIF) and what losses there are in between.

    Please could you check the hop amounts in particular as I have made hop amount errors on my last three BIAB. The EKG are definitely 5.0AA% as stated on the packet.
    
    Also Have I got the following correct:-
    
    I enter the recipes OG in section C. The Fermentable Bill in the BIABacus.
    
    I enter on the BIABacus in section D. The Hop Bill under Please just set my Desired IBU's (Tinseth) to 38.4 (This figure is taken from the original recipe)
    
    and then I make sure the AA% (taken from the hop packets)...

    I'm glad to hear it went well and you're enjoying your brew! If you are counting this recipe as one that you got the hops wrong I wouldn't if I were you. The recipe you brewed is very good and I have no doubt it tastes awesome. The suggestions I made are just that, suggestions. With every brew you create you will come up with ways of tweaking it to your tastes to try better the last - In my opinion that best part of the craft and you learn a lot from it!

    I hav'nt been around for a while but still brewing. After my Bo pils pale ale I thought I would try some more Saaz in a hoppy beer. I had heard of other people using Saaz and Cascade together. I have never made a wheat beer so I thought that would be a good combination. I added a bit of Galaxy to satisfy my hop craving.     I did a Landlord years ago which was fairly close but this used ingredients/parameters that are different to yours;
    Crystal malt
    Styrian Goldings
    Mashed at 66C too.
    
    Have a look at Graham Wheeler's book if you get a chance.
    
    The one thing I will say though is even if you get the exact ingredients, profile, and timings exact to Timothy Taylor it will still be difficult to clone as not only would you need to...

    This is my second BIAB. I hadn't tweaked the spreadsheet for my losses and grain efficiencies (since I messed up on recording information for my first BIAB. So I missed my OG by quite a bit, but just went with it for now since this is a learning batch. My measured OG was 1.042 instead of 053. I figured that this was due to my equipment having a lower boil off rate and mash conversion efficiency. Thoughts and comments are appreciated.

    Sounds Great, Biabacus will only tell you Volume Problems and lets you adjust your Brewing Conditions.

    Just kegged this brew. I was going to brew several weeks ago but life intervened, so I did the brew day on May 10. I've been trying to duplicate this brew, and missed the hop bill a bit on my last try. This one seems to be somewhat closer to the original - maybe even right on the spot, after it has conditioned.

    (Wow - that was an old message thread!)
    
    The DME was to boost the gravity a bit from what was calculated, and also because I had an extra bit of DME hanging around that I wanted to use. I could have added some additional 2-row and kept close to the same profile. The grain bill and strike water all fit the kettle but I do have to watch it a little as I get the grain in (BIABacus warns of approaching kettle limit). I did have a few inches of headroom, and no problem with the boil.

    I read all the be essential and newbie stuff.
    The download references an APA American Pale Ale recipe but I can't find it.
    
    Since this is going to be my first BIAB attempt is it easier to use a BIAB recipe and convert for my equipment?
    Or find an AG recipe somewhere and convert it?
    
    Ideally I could find a 5 gallon / 19l recipe that is easy and will give me good numbers to set my equipment specs

    Good morning / afternoon / evening all.
    Up and at them early this morning, mash on at 6:55am.
    Another experimental with the ingredients I had whilst also getting used to the process.
    Each of my previous 3 have been palatable, so seem to be doing something right.
    I've got a sparge step in there but as I am stove-top this will be finding the largest pot i have that can fit around 2 litres of water and the mash bag in there.

    Getting 20L(VIF) instead of 23L(VIF) may have been a Boil Problem.
    
    If you boiled on a Clear, Dry Day, you could have boiled off Much more, than the Program projected.
    
    But, If it was Cool, and Raining, That would not be the Trouble.

    Managed an OG of 1.097 which was not far off at all. I was having a much harder time keeping the mash at temp than previous brews - I wonder whether this was due to the much smaller amount of liquid than what I'm used to, or the higher amount of grain? Anyway, in the heat of the moment, after reading that the 60 or 90 minute mash length might not be overly necessary ( I think I gave up after about 50 minutes compared to the recommended 90. Maybe...

    Hi All,
    
    I will be trying to brew a batch of very light summer ale for the wife (and friends) in a few months. And I am starting to do some research as to possible recipes?
    
    She only like lagers. I do not have the equipment to brew / ferment a true lager so I am looking for a very light summer ale that will be close.
    
    The best I have come up with is a SMASH based on a very light malt and a fairly flavourless hop.

    Hi! This is my 5th brew, and I need help working out my recipe's hop amount for the type of hops I have purchased.
    
    My recipe calls for:
    3 AAUs Willamette pellet hops (0.66 oz. at 4.5% alpha acid)
    1.33 AAUs Fuggle pellet hops (0.33 oz. at 4% alpha acid)
    2 AAUs Fuggle pellet hops (0.50 oz. at 4% alpha acid)
    
    The Willamette hops I have are 5.6 AAUs, and the Fuggles are 6.7 AAU. So I assume I have to use slightly less hops than what the recipe calls for.. what is the calculation to use?

    Welcome to the forum Jeff :salute:,
    
    What we are looking at in any hop addition is the weight of alpha acids in that addition. This is based on the faulty assumption that all the other special oils and acids in the hop will be in the same proportion as whatever the original brewer's crop of hops was. It never is this way but AA% is the best we can make of this clumsiness so....
    
    The original recipe had 0.66 oz * 4.5 AA% of the first hop addition (you can use metric as well). 0.66 * 4.5 = 2.97...

    So, I'm planning to brew the following at the weekend. Any tips, suggestions or advice most appreciated:-
    
    15 litre mini BIAB.
    
    3kg pilsner
    500g wheat
    400g Vienna
    500g Golden Promise
    
    Single mash at 65-68 degrees for 1 hour, and then a 60 min boil with following schedule:
    
    Northern Brewer - 30g for 60mins
    Northern Brewer - 15g for 10 mins
    Hallertauer Hersbr. - 15g for 5 mins.
    
    Think the Northern Brewer is 9% AA and Hallertauer is about 3.1%AA ..
