   Guys, I just tried using BIABacus with Google's new Add-in for Chrome Office Editing for Docs
   
   and lo and behold BIABacas seems to work perfectly.
   
   My testing wasn't thorough but I tried changing a few things such as;
   
   Desired VIF
   Hop AA%
   Desired Gravity
   Changed Evap Rate
   Desired IBU's
   
   Each time the BIABacus Spreadsheet Recalculated and did what it was supposed to. :thumbs:
   
   This may be a very handy add-in for those living in the Apple or I-Pad worlds (Yet to test it on those platforms,...

   There's always something bundy :roll:.
   
   LibreOffice works well on any platform and stays protected as long as users always save the file as an .xls. The only change that occurs is in the colours but that is not much to worry about.

   On your next brew, if you are a pure BIAB'er and do a mash-out , I'm wondering if you could take two gravity readings and record them here for us.
   
   What is a Pure BIAB?

   I was hoping to collect some more figures on kettle evaporation rates to see if the exisitng evaporation formula used in The Calculator needs any improvement.
   
   If possible, can you please post the following in this thread...
   
   1. Your average internal kettle diameter and type. (For keg users, see picture below and estimate.)
   2. How much wort you evaporated off during the boil. (Start of boil volume minus end of boil volume.)

   The formula you have linked to would give us with a 2.4kW element...
   
   2400/2256.4*60*60/1000=1.06364*60*60/1000=3.83 litres/hour or 1.01 gal/hour.

   Gents, I just want to see if I am using BIABIcus correctly when it comes to priming calculations.
   
   I put in my CO2 volume into section H as well as my Fermentation temp. With that in Section Q it shows the amount of corn Sugar / dextrose to use per bottle. As well as bottles needed etc.
   
   In my case I have 21.5 litres going into 500ml bottles. I want a CO2 volume of 3.0, BIABIcus tells me I need 43 bottles and 3.6grams per bottle (Using 500ml Bottles) Now I bulk prime so 43 x 3.6 is 155grams (or...

   Guys, Qstn for the gurus. (Probably one only Pat can answer but we will see)
   
   First time I have used a Hopsock today (Must say I ask myself why I haven't before)
   
   Anyway, when using a hopsock does BIABacus expect you to take measurements with the hopsock still in the Kettle? Or do you remove and measure your EOBV?
   
   When removing the hopsock I had maybe 0.5L of Trub in my sock which I guess without a sock would normally be there??

    Not sure if this was already mentioned but I tried using the unit conversion page for gallons to liters and it was giving me a wrong value. I entered 3.57 gallons and it gave me 16.23 Liters. It was supposed to be 13.51 Liters. Not sure if this is an actual error or an operator error.

    How do I acct for fermentables, in this case candi syrup, added with 15 min left in the boil in BIABacus?
    
    I brewed this yesterday and as I was plugging in my actuals to BIABacus as I brewed, my Gravity into Boil was 1.029. I had the candi syrup listed as part of the grain bill, but that appears to cause BIABacus to calculate as if it was there for the full 90 minutes, it calculated a 1.040 estimated GIB. This really caused me great confusion until i realized that I didn't add my candi syrup...

    Well I checked out the new version and sure enough, there it is, I can now set my candi syrup to be a boil addition.

    So, I got my shiny new 10 tip natural gas burner in the mail and my shiny new 60qt Stainless Concord pot and decided I needed to test the Evaporation rate with just a straight water boil test, no grains.
    
    Here are my numbers for a 60 min boil on my 41.9cm x 41.9cm pot:
    
    --5Gal of water, which measured 5.375 in my pot, slightly less than the 5.41 that Biabacus predicts; probably a neglible difference
    --Volume at beginning of boil was still 5.375
    --Volume measured hot at Flame-out (VFO)was 3.75...

    Something is wrong here, 60 quarts vs. 15.26 gallons.
    
    Lol, you noticed that too, those are the actual dimensions, measured 3x, 41.9cm x 41.9cm and the pot is stamped 60Qt and is also sold online as 60qt.
    
    Didn't really think it was worth worrying about, especially since the diameter (most important dimension in my mind) is dead on exactly 41.9cm.

    Hi,
    
    As far as I can see when I enter an amount is litres it is automatically converted to Gals, so I can see it in both units. This is great and extremely useful.
    
    However, it appears to be US gals, is there a way to set it to convert to UK gals?
    
    A check box somewhere I have missed?
    
    Nearly all of the auto claculations have an adjustment field but I cannot find one to change this setting.

    Thanks PP, I thought it might have been the compatibility issue, I know you (and the team) have put literally thousands of hours into BIABacus.
    
    At my level, I use it more as a teaching tool than a recipe database, and know it has much much more to teach me :)

    So I tried the Biabicus for the first time. To create this recipe I have used the ingredients from a lagunitas clone. Then I used the same measurements and volumes from the last beer I brewed Which was a dead guy clone That mad scientist had all ready brewed.     Success! After applying your suggestions I have managed to convert a Low Integrity recipe to match my equipment. My problem was that i didnt understand that the the original grain bill design was the LI recipe. Kinda of a DuH moment for me :scratch: Anyhow I am feeling more confident now with the Biabicus.     I cannot seem to find what I am looking for and that is simply all the measurements I need during my brew day. Water level, hydrometer readings, temperature, etc. Is there more that I need to do/less? This would be a great help to know all the measurements I need to take.     I just took a gravity reading from my latest beer to see if it was finished, as I generally do. I filled the test jar up and put in the hydrometer and took the reading 1.014, not finished, I need to give it some more time. Why do I need to take another one, can I not leave the beer in the test jar with the hydrometer in it, at the same temp as my fermenter and watch it until it is finished?

I kind of stopped taking final gravity readings too but some of my beers lately (the bottled ones) have seemed a bit overcarbonated and I wanted to squeeze all the gravity points I could out of this one. Also I've been doing cask ales and want to try racking to the pin a couple of points early instead of priming. As usual you have the answers!

    As always on liquids your mileage may vary some. Also, grind will change the absorption rate. Always try to grind the same setting for consistancy. Boil rate will change if you use a propane burner also.
    As far as To squeeze or not to squeeze , that is the question I personally have never had off flavors {tannins} due to squeezing the bag. I do also let it drain over a collender not the pot. Only change in flavor profile has been due to I brew outside and will pick up wild yeast due to spring...

    I just finished my 3rd BIAB and so am still getting used to the BIABacus. I think its an amazing tool and really appreciate all the hard work that must have gone into it!
    The more I use it I'm sure the more questions I'll have and hopefully there'll be someone on here to give me some answers or point me in the right direction.

    I've not used any other brewing software, only the BIABacus, so I'm obviously bias but it's a bloody good tool I'm sure you'll agree :clap:

    Hi there. A beer brewing and loving Swede here. Hence the Swinglish .
    
    I am fairly sure that this information is in here somewhere but it is a vast place to look trough. Searching demands knowledge on what key words to search for. So I beg your forgiveness och hope for some help on my issues.

    Maybe I should tell you how my first BIAB really went. I made a recepie with BrewMate, a Kölsch (my wife is German and I lived i Cologne for a time and got to enjoy this beer).
    
    The theory
    Boil volume: 28 liters (7.4 gal)
    Post boil and chill volume 23 liters (6 gal)
    Grain: 4.9 kg (10.8 lbs)
    Est OG: 1.049
    
    Reality
    23 liters (6 gal) of mash water for 90 min
    Sparged 7 liters (1.8 gal) over the grains and pressed the bag. This gave aprox. 28 liters boil volume.

    I've recently switched software as stated but having some difficulties with the setup.
    I've always used software in sync with The Calculator, but am having a little difficulty matching the values.
    I've followed the equipment setup and I'm happy with the values from this; near perfect match.
    However, when I plug a recipe in, the water volume is either too high or too low, by a good few litres!

    That's some clever stuff PP! Once again I'll defer to your knowledge on this, as I was getting good efficiency in my Calculator days so given what you've said I don't expect any problems.
    Perhaps I was just craving the joy of old when I overshot my efficiency :whistle:
    
    I can see you've spent a lot of time working on this, so I can understand why you'd be a little peeved that programs like BeerSmith still have taken on your sage advice!

    I needed to convert Plato to Specific Gravity today so I found this converter online with the formula and table. Looking at a few minutes I realized that if you take the specific gravity say 1.048 and divide the 48 by four you get plato 12 which is correct. Likewise 10 Plato * 4 = 1.040. I did not know that' did all y'all? I'm sure this is not new but it's nice to be able to do things quickly in your noggin. :headhit: Seems easier than the complicated formula below and works in the normal...

    I have a question that has been bugging me for some time now, and i wondered if anybody else has encountered something similar?
    for my last few brews i have noticed a trend when carrying out the procedure (below). Where the post boil but pre-chill gravity appears higher
    than the chilled gravity.
    
    1) After mash but pre-mashout; take a 5ml sample for the refractometer ALLOW TO COOL. Take reading.

    So I am perplexed as to why my efficiency is lacking and I am hoping someone here can give me some advice as to what I am doing wrong. The following is the basic recipe used.
    
    I crushed the grains from 030, and 028 and double crushed at 028(030 was the first batch and 028 was the second batch). Did a 90 minute mash stirred at the doe-in until there was no doe balls.
