1. Romanian Homebrewers?

   Hey my central European brew buddies,
   I currently live in the US but relocating to my wife's home of Bucharest is seeming more and more like a possibility. I'm wondering what the homebrew scene is like there. Are there local shops is it easy to get ingredients, what is there for readily available equipment? Answers for Hungary or Bulgaria are relevant as well. Any and all information is welcomed.    If the situation with homebrewing equipment in Romania is comparable to the one in Russia, then it's super rare. You may find some items there and there, but it'll be quite the adventure anyways. However, Romania is a member of the EU, so you can order stuff from Germany, Belgium etc with lower shipping prices and no customs fees.

   Based on a thread starting here .
   Is there any interest in collaborating on cloning Wychwood Brewery's HOBGOBLIN . With the possibility of then swapping the beers amongst participants?

   Here in Greece we managed to create our association and among other events we made our first competition. This was a cooperation with a local brewery which will brew the wining recipe. The judges where from Greek national technical institute of brewing department a bjcp member and homebrewers the style was smoked ale.
   There were 49 entries we had great time and learned a lot.

   My entry got 91 points of 150 and most of the entries were above average and 95% were biab...

   Bottom line is that we trying to get Greek homebrewers involved.
   We have so far arrange an off flavor seminar, some brewdays and several meetings and we hope to gather all Greek homebrewers under our association in order to accomplish more interesting events for the community.

   I left Liverpool when I was 8 years old, so my pub knowledge isn't that good.
   There is a Brewdog in Liverpool though (Manolis Yard, 8 Colquit Street, Liverpool, L1 4DE).
   Expensive but good quality.

6. The Home brew festival - UK - 2015

   Some UK brewers, or even Europe, may be interested in a the home brew festival being organised for next summer. The main idea is a social weekend we we can sample each others beers and wines. There is also a competition judged by accredited judges who will give honest feed back on your beer. Possible lectures and other events are also being planned. This event is independent of any forum or other organisation. Here is the website.

   I've been wanting to start this thread for two months now! I had the following beer on my (second) fiftieth birthday celebration and it was the best American India Pale Ale I have ever had I reckon. American IPA but brewed in Italy by Birra del Borgo. Re Ale Extra Resized.jpg I had never seen it or heard of it before and they only had two bottles left :dunno:.

   Hey guys,
   Sorry to have been outta touch for so long. been busy.
   So anyway, i recently won the local Carlsberg Challenge . not a brewing contest but more a beer knowledge contest (paring food with beer, blind tasting to identify style and that sort of thing).
   800 people went online and took the quiz, 40 advanced to the second round, 10 to the finals and I won!
   so, they're sending me to London for 4 days to attend a course at the London Beer Academy

    I did think of posting in the integrity forum, but I didn't have any questions about the recipe/integrity so thought otherwise.
    
    It's spooky that you mention the boil times, as I have always boiled for 60 mins, but since I brewed Nev's Tettnang Pilsner I have decided I prefer 90 mins, so the Tribute recipe (BIABacus) is set to 90 mins. Maybe that will make a difference as you say, who knows?

    I think I have got a direct debit set up with Rob at Maltmiller. He has got very good prices, a huge variety and great customer service, and I get most of my brewing stuff from him. Most LHBS and OHBS in the UK ran out of the popular American hops during Nov/Dec and I posted the above link since I know they had some in stock-and he is my most local HBS (20 miles away).

    Hi all,
    A quick question for any of our UK brewers.
    
    Has anybody managed to source 6 row (or other high diastatic malts)?
    I know the U.S. is a good source, but i cannot find any available here in the UK.
    
    For reference; I am thinking of doing a high percentage unmalted adjunct brew, and i don't think 2 row has the power for this.

    This post is aimed at UK brewers living in the Northwest. Ideally those who live along the M62 corridor and in the Manchester area, although you are welcome to meet me at the mill if you live in the opposite direction and want to take advantage of a bulk buy. This is a cut and paste of a post I made on the Northern craft brewers Facebook page. I haven't re-checked prices yet but will if I get enough interest.

    It went well in the end, I got a couple of takers from NCB and the rest from Jims. 650kg in all.

    A couple of the guys who had grain off me mentioned the solidarity thing. There is the Northern Craft Brewers but there meets seem to have been over Leeds way mostly. Next time you visit your sister let me know...
