   Thought I'd start a thread that listed Western Australian BIABrewer.info members and events while the site is still young. This way, if anyone is having a brew day they can post it here and/or PM other W.A. brewers easily. Also, general events such as comps, tastings, interstate visitors etc could be posted here so as we can all be kept up to date.

   Hi Pat,
   
   thanks again for the info. I decided to tip that Pale ale because it tasted like sh*t and i wanted the keg space for my next beer. Couldnt wait 4 weeks to see if it improved. Ive found another recipe to try on MadFermentationists's blog. I will do up a BIABACUS file and post if for comments and a second opinion.
   
   My Berliner sour is fermenting nicely atm.

   Pat and I are planning a brew day on Sunday the 19th.
   We are in East Fremantle, WA. If any of you are in the area and free, we'd love for you to join us!

   Hi
   Just received one of these MaltMuncher grain mills off trade me of all places
   Fantastic price delivered from Oz all in $135 NZD.
   Its actually a Keg King Maltmuncher No 5441.
   Looks pretty Kosher hopefully mount to some mdf for the weekend to try out a Ruddles County style brew.
   Have they fallen off the back of a lorry that's quite a saving.

   A bit of an update on my Mash Master Mini Mill. Theres a thread on AHB about the knurling on the MKII rollers getting dull. I got my mill in August 2014 and without experience didnt notice a problm at first. My last brew took 45 mins to crush 9kg of grain and that was with me pushing down the hopper with bit of 2x4. There was heaps of flour and the mash was dough ball city. Even with BIAB.
   
   If you have been reading on AHB youll know the story. MM have brought out MkIII which has fluted rollers....

   Grain and Grape are great but have a slightly limited range but plenty of variety for different beers. If you like Gladfield (NZ) malt then their Australian distributor onclick= window.open(this.href);return false; is in Footscray so you can get them a little bit cheaper. in Heidelberg West have just about every grain available in Australia. They are online only but have pickup. Im sure there's more but alot are just kit and kilo unfortunately.

    Royal Perth Beer Show - 2015
    For we W.A. Amateurs, this event has become a great social event. Basically, if you enter one beer ($20) in this comp, you get two tickets to attend the tasting on Saturday 1st August (1pm to 4pm and then we kick on after). At the tasting you get to taste all the amateur and craft and commercial beers. It is great fun and no other beer comp does that!!!
    
    As for judging of amateur beers, the committee has apparently listened to feedback and so we can expect more...

    its only a 10min drive into Freo from Claremont? I could see Case was merry but not that bad lol.
    
    many nice beers drank but thought the Brown Ale was a really nice beer, cant recall the brewer? case would remember or maybe not haha.

    I think this will be handy when searching on here should you end up in a new town/city, or should you be on holidays and fancy a beer swap. I just drove down to Bundaberg and if I knew of other brewers along the way I would have taken beers along for possible beer swaps which would have been fun.

    Gday beer4, I've been using a cheapy $100 44 litre electric urn for just over a year now, knocked out 19 before the element died. Compared to a $300 Crownie, that's about five bucks a brew, so I got another one :)
    Slowly accumulating more stuff like a mill, grain & hops bulk buys, yeast stepping & temp control. Just got a real cheap fridge & a chest freezer, a keg & gas. Yep, sure is a great time & cost saver this home brew caper ;)

    due to being Polish and a brewer I've managed to acquire several varieties of Polish hop varieties which are completely unavailable in Australia. A relative recently visited Poland and I got her to bring me back about 4.5kg of hop pellets (900g each of 5 varieties). This is too much for me to use by myself, so have since sold 3kg (600g of 5 varieities). So I still have 300g x 5 varieties of hops for my own use I can still sell possibly 100g of each variety.

    I love meeting up with Sydney brewers. All of them are great fun. I have computers blowing up (and my brain) so can't wait to fly in on Thursday and meet some new brewers plus my favourite 'old' ones whom I better ring tomorrow :think:.

    Royal Perth Beer Show - 2014
    
    For us Amateurs, this event has become a great social event (more comments on the educational side later.) Basically, if you put in one beer ($20) you get two tickets to attend the tasting on Saturday 25th October (1pm to 4pm and then we kick on after). At the tasting you get to taste all the amateur and craft and commercial beers. It is great fun and no other beer comp does that!!!

    Just had a few beers with sinkas in Freo. Excellent as always. The judge picked up the diacetyl that Sinkas found in my beer so nice picking sinkas!
    
    Got my results back and scored 16 out of 20 but official results were 14.6 or something. What I thihnk is going on is one judge is doing each section but they are then scaling that judges results against the other judges. In the olden days (four years ago). I used to get three or four judges sheets back for every beer I put in. Now, we just get...

    Hey all, just thought I'd put this out here, as some of you might find it of interest.
    
    I emailed Colin from Brew Your own at Home, i Kambah a week or so ago, and he mentioned to me that they're conducting a BIAB demo at the shop at 10.00 on Sunday the 16th November. A bloke by the name of Damon Young is doing it and will bring along some beer made by that method. It’s free and there’s no need to book.

    AcesHigh and myself have been wanting to get together for a brew day for some time now. I've also been promising for about two years to have an open one so this is well overdue.
    
    On June 9th, we'll do two double batches of the same recipe side by side.
    
    We'll probably start drinking around midday but I might mash in a bit earlier so we don't end up chilling in the dark. We can work that out later ;).

    I need some advice and local knowledge please.
    
    My son has just started a 3 year contract at NSW university and is just settling in.
    
    He has shown interest in home brewing while he is there, first with kits and then moving onto BIAB once he is comfortable with the basics.
    
    I have looked online and found Daves brew store who will supply a starter kit and deliver it (he has no transport yet). Does anyone have any preferred suppliers who offer a similar service or any helpful advice to help him on...

    Where is he living? If he's Inner West then he'd be as well off contacting ESB brewing at Peakhurst. Dave is good and helpful as well.
    
    Marks Home Brew doesn't do fresh wort kits, but for general freight they are in a good freight zone for Sydney using Fastway Couriers, and I know that Mark does sell a heap to Sydney brewers.
    
    For smaller orders under 3 kg such as yeasts, hops and specialty grains Craftbrewer in Brisbane deliver just as cheaply to me here near Taree as when I lived in...

    Just thought I'd say hi from NZ and wondered how many other NZ BIABers there are on here.
    
    Has anyone got any experience with Gladfield Malt? My local store has most of their grain in, so plan on making an ale using their Toffee malt on top of a base with additional Rye for body and head retention. This would be my first attempt at BIAB (and won't get chance until the first weekend in Feb).

    Ok, so this is a prequel to the Perth Beer Show. Bring your swap beer on the day (hopefully the one that you are entering into the show).
    
    For those that haven't done a swap before it goes like this. You put your name on the list below. On the day you bring 2 x 700ml PET bottles for every other person on the swap list below. We will stop the list at 10 (if we manage to get that much interest), so you arrive with 18 bottles of your beer and you leave with hopefully 18 examples of best in class...

    Looks like I missed the beer fault night on Tuesday but was forced to fly back from Sydney with Jetstar so would have been too tired to attend anyway :smoke:.
    
    Sinkas, I have my ticket for tomorrow night's 'Tasting of the Barrels' at the Sail. Do we have a loyalty card for, Nick's Kebabs? I can never remember eating there but surely we must have something by now?
