      Hey all! It has been a while since I've really been around, but I'm getting back into brewing.
      After 2 moves and picking up an expensive offroad Jeep hobby it's time to get brewing. The Jeep group I now belong to is called The Drunken Beavers and they are eagerly awaiting me to get brewing also.
      I have completed the exterior construction of my new 12x8 brew shed and need to plan out the interior.

      If you've already got this covered, then please excuse me, LumpySoh.
      What will consume the indoor height of your shed? The kettle and whatever it sits upon, and the bag when pulled, of course. Stirrer and any immersion coils have to fit into the open kettle from above, too. Will you want an overhead pulley to help lift the bag? Where will that pulley be attached to work best?

      I recently listened to most of an experimental homebrewing podcast. The topic was expected ibu's vs measured. I have not listened to the lead up cast but the experiment was to provide listeners with an APA, IPA and IIPA recipe. Listeners brewed these and submitted them for testing. Across the board there were discrepancies of up to 30%. Glenn Tinseth was on hand to discuss the results.       I realize there is already a ton of documentation on the inaccuracies of ibu calculations. What I found most interesting is the fact that Glenn used whole hops in his testing and believes that once the hops were covered in the sugars in the wort that hop oil extraction dropped and that pellets are probably more efficient.

      It has been about 18 months since my last confession (brewday). I feel like I am starting from square 1 again.
      I am brewing a belgian blonde and planning on using the yeast cake to brew a belgian golden strong in a couple weeks. The blonde recipe is based on a BYO Jamil recipe. The original is a 7%Abv recipe with hallertau hops and mine will be 5% with styrian goldings (celia). The recipe calls for sugar to be added to the boil and I am not sure if I entered it correctly in the biabacus.

      Well I'm going to try again next weekend.  :angry:
      I started getting everything ready to brew. First off I didn't leave enough room to really get at my hose attachment so I  had some leakage but was going to press on anyways. When it came time to crush my grains I couldn't find my drill attachment for my corona mill. I ran out to the hardware store and pick another one up. 4lbs into grinding my mill broke bringing an end to my brewday. 
      Luckily I did alright at Christmas and my new roller mill...

      It's 3:15AM here in SW Ontario and I am currently riding a 28 hr streak without sleep. I have worked 2 8 hr shifts in the last 24 hrs. I generally work midnight to 8AM but today I added a 4PM to midnight shift. Although I don't like the 4-12 shift ;I do love relaxing in front of the computer listening to tunes, surfing the web and enjoying some pops(I've lost count) after this shift.

      My main LHBS doesn't have a retail location and sells online. The shop started off in the owners garage mainly selling used corneys and has since grown by leaps and bounds. the shop now is located in multiple warehouses and they have their own line of kettles, false bottoms, stainless chillers and a number of hop helpers and trub screens as well as a huge selection of ingredients and other equipment. I have been dealing with them for a number of years and they out deliver on customer service....

      Thanks for the suggestions fellas. I think I am most unsure of how to use the Melanoidin and aromatic. I've read conflicting information on those 2.

      I typically like to create recipes with the Brewr app on my phone and translate them into the Biabacus. This time around the numbers were so far off(probably because of the gravities?);I decided to scrap the app and only use the Biabacus.

      Unfortunately I never got around to brewing this. A number of things came up and got in the way. I haven't even brewed in 6 months. I am moving May 1st and hope to get something fermenting shortly after.

      I received a couple of books this year. My parents are notoriously bad at gift giving but refuse to just go with gift cards or money. I specifically asked for A Brewer's Tale ( which I got) and the Yeast book (I did not get). My parents instead got me the Oxford reference guide to Beer; which is basically an encyclopedia of beer and brewing terms. It's not really helpful so it will be exchanged for something else.

       I used strips from Precision Labs. 70% of my water was reverse osmosis. I have a water report from my city and used EZ water calculator to estimate the mineral levels and ph of the brew.
       My next batch is going to be a stout and according to a couple water calculatore my tap water is perfect for that. I need to better understand what my equipment is doing before I chase the numbers around too much. I am sure the pilsner will turn out drinkable :drink:
