Thanks for including the metric figures, PP! I wanted to include them but wasn't able to look up the conversions easily at the time. GMH, thanks for the heads up on the inconsistent sizing, I will be sure to check the dimensions and calculate volume before buying. I'll also have to find out I'd ther...

I'll just add that not all propane tanks have the same amount of propane. I refilled both of my tanks and one was considerably heavier than the other. I did not exchange them at the same time or place. The heavier one I got straight of the truck (the propane truck was loading up the cases at the sto...

Almost went to the dark side

So I've been dissatisfied with the limitations of my 5 gal kettle, mainly not being able to do large batches of strong beers. I must I admit I was tempted by a 15 gallon cooler at Costco that was pretty cheap. I thought I could use that to mash in and go that route. But then I thought about the hass...

My bag is nylon voile, I bought it from a website that was linked somewhere on this forum.

Thanks for the link, Bob!

Thanks for the replies. The smell is mild but definitely something I want to take care of. I always put the stiching on the outside. I do however want to make a new bag and stitch it with a machine as well as double layered (got the idea from Bob!). First bag is hand sewn, which took FOREVER!! Sent ...

Cleaning bag

Just wondering how people clean thirst their brewing bag after brewing. I've brewed five batches so far and my brewing bag smells a little. After brew day I run the brewing bag under water to get all the grain out and then let it dry. I guess I could use PBW to clean it, or maybe star san? (those ar...

it sucks to shell out for another propane tank, but having a back up would be well-worth it on a night like yours!

of course you have to make sure the spare is full, which mine is not... so i'm gonna shut up ;)

you should have made the guy make your order the right way. no reason to pay for something you don't want/didn't ask for. At my LHBS it is self-service with the grain and milling, which is awesome! if you mix up the grain long enough, they should be mixed evenly. not sure how long you'd have to mix ...

I have been dry hopping when I transfer to the secondary fermenter. Currently I am dry hopping 7.5 L of IPA with 56.8 g of hops (Crystal and Simcoe in even parts). I love hoppy beers, so I'm hoping (hopping ;)) that my beer turns out very hoppy. The last time I left my beer in the secondary too long...

I thought about converting the unit to imperial for my first brew, but ended up just using metric. It was much easier than trying to convert everything. I had a pitcher with both quarts and liters on it, so I used that to measure. Weighing grain was easier in grams: no fractions!
