I've found that I prefer natural carbonation. I've given force carbing a go recently, and for some reason it seems beers that have been force carbed don't have the same level of head retention as the exact same beer that has been naturally carbed. I recently split an American amber double batch and ...

I've never understood why anyone would use a traditional mash paddle in home brewing . Im now running a 100L pot so the standard stainless steel chefs spoon i had for my single batch pot is now a little short. The mrs picked me up a metre long stainless steel stirrer from a kitchen shop re...

The "exchange" ones here in Aus I've found are notoriously under filled when you get them. My brother used to get the "swap and go's" from the local servo. We compared one we had filled ourselves, and it felt half empty. I generally get about 4-5 brews to a 9kg bottle. Running a standard low pressur...

Thanks for the input thus far. You've made a lot of sense and your right, going to the trouble of recirculating or anything else would be going against the simple processes that BIAB has to offer, and pretty well a waste of time. I certainly don't want to add complication to it...and you have pointe...

Thanks trout.
Your right why complicate a simple process with something that can (and will eventually) break down...and usually at a critical moment. Thanks for pointing that out.

I definitely would like to go electric though for the reasons mentioned above

Nice work pist . Never compensate unless you know exactly how the original brewer treated their hops and managed the chill. Programs/software that have a no-chill adjustment make many assumptions that are simply not correct. The BIABacus focuses on how the hops are treated and when the chil...

Its a one in a million luck of the draw kind of thing but my guess would be that maybe he has been lucky and somehow ended up with his wort being innoculated with some remenant witbier yeast cells floating around in the brewing area that overpowered his pitched yeast rather than a wild yeast to prod...

A Black IPA I bottled into my trusty TapKing a few weeks ago. It didn't turn out as IPAish as I was aiming for which I put down to not compensating for No chill...but it sure has made a tasty beer. Up front is the choc/black malt...then comes a well rounded bitterness and a hint of fruitiness at the...

Rims biab

Hey guys Im currently on a 50l gas fired keggle setup. Whilst its simple and makes beer well...ive been doing some reading up on other systems people have come up with...and my current situation and equipment have got me thinking... Firstly...i like the idea of being able to flick the powerpoint on ...

Thanks guys appreciate the feedback and encouragement. I guess this is a bit of an update. I've been progressively drinking the lager over the last couple of weeks (the last update was based on my first trial a couple of weeks ago)...and even since last Monday it has improved quite a lot. This is go...

Well the time has come to taste it. Overall its not bad...got some work to do to improve on it butots a start. Firstly...im extremely impressed with the yeast and the way fermentation went. Its clean and crisp and cant taste any off flavours that relate to fermentation by products. Ill be using this...

Well I finally got around to putting this one down yesterday. All in all it was a successful brew day, the only drama I hit was dropping the hydrometer. No biggie...I just don't know how I went efficiency wise, though doesn't matter, I've made wort...and its on its way to being ready to be fermented...

Np pistolpatch. Its good to be able to give some useful information back...as its because of the ton of info and discussions that members here and especially yourself left behind on other sites that got me into biab. So thank you! The bottles and lids appear to have been designed specifically for th...

+2 on the thread tape. These adaptors leak without it. I went through a full cylinder before working out that it was leaking. Since ive been taping the thread on the cylinders ive had no issues

Sorry guys I haven't been on here in ages due to other personal commitments. I haven't even had time lately to brew which im not too happy about but that's life...my apologies for not getting back to you! Well in my absence it seems someone's launched a website dedicated to all things tapking and ho...

olaboss, Brewing beer is very forgiving towards us. We abuse grain and hops. We miss temperatures by a lot. We reuse yeast too many times over and ferment at the wrong temperatures. Yet the beer seems to forgive us and be quite drinkable. I try do to everything right but I always seem to worry and ...

Update: I haven't forgotten/abandoned this article. Have been quite busy with work and also other projects at home. I have all the information compiled so I'll post this up over the long weekend when i have a spare hour or so.

PP, I've got another box full of CO2 bulbs on the way and a batch in the fermenter at the moment, I rework the first post into a mini-write up with pics to explain what i'm on about a bit better when it's ready to be bottled. Stay tuned
