IowaCarver,

If you were to use a hop sock and pull the hops out at the end of the boil there should be very little or no hop debris in you no chill cube which should give you the correct IBU without changing the hop bill? Lots of brewers use there BIAB bag as a hop sock.

Balli.

Hi HgbBill, Allot of no chillers no longer squeeze there cubes, there is no real evidence to suggest there must be no air in it. The idea is that the heat will ensure that any nasties in the air will be destroyed, as well as in the cube, although I still suggest you sanitise. Deformation shouldn't b...

Hi tota76 Yes a mash out has been proven to increase mash efficiency and it's really easy to do with biab and doesn't add any additional time to your brew day. Simply ensure you bag isn't touching elements or the bottom of your pot while applying heat (it's a good idea to continually stir while appl...

Odymate, you should take your OG readings after you have chilled the wort. If you no chill like myself you can take tho OG before pitching the yeast. It is best to measure gravity when the wort is as close to your hydrometers calibrated temp as possible as this will give a more accurate reading. The...

Should I expect to have a higher FG than anticipated?

HI I brewed an english bitter from BCS a few weeks ago and its been in the fermenter for 14 days now at a constant 19 - 21 degrees thanks to my new fish tank heater. PP very kindly advised me on how to put the recipe into the BIABacus. When I mashed In I made a big mistake, the water was 10 degrees ...

low cost DIY hop spider

So I made a hop spider today, was super simple/easy and cheep. I had most of he bits already, heres what you need. - Rope - 5" to 4" extractor fan reducer - voile hop sock with drawstring - short length of syphon tube http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd185/balli_photo/photo2-1.jpg [/url] step ONE ...

Odymate That is exactly the problem! OK, I've read even further and have now realised what I was missing in regards to the original recipes lack of info regarding EOBV-A and how this effects the hop additions. Do you think it safe to assume that these 5 gallon recipes that are so common refer to VIF...

Congrats on your first AG BIAB brew!! You mentioned that you estimated the boil off rate yourself? You should try out the BIABacus!!! It's an excell spreadsheet that will work out and estimate all of your volumes ect for you with incredible accuracy so you can concentrate on the process. It's a free...

Thanks for posting that write up mally. Finished a keg last night and I found cleaning pretty easy. Treated it like I would a bottle, rinse with warm water, fill with warm water and add a bit of Oxy Clean and leave to rest for 20mins, rinse, rinse then rinse again. The hard part is getting them dry....

Brewferm Mini Keg System

Hi Yall, Its my first time using the Brewferm mini kegs and tap so thought I would share my experiences with them, there seems to be allot of conflicting views on the internet. People either love them or hate them. So far so good. Easy to fill, simply fill them leaving a few cm to spare (bulk primed...

Hi The PLG that is now known as GIB (gravity in to Boil) it is taken after the grain bag is removed and before the boil. Are you holding back water because your pot is too small? Are you using the hydrometer temp correction tool on the BIABAcus? Iv never used dilutions myself so can really answer yo...

Hi hoggyafc What kind of hops do u use ? I use pellets and use a voile hop sock to contain them and get very little hop sludge at all. The majority of the trub in my kettle comes from break material ect. It's surprising how much wort hops soak up so I squeeze my sock after the boil to get as much as...
