jhough, I'd be happy to try and help but I am also a bit of a newb at water adjustments too. When you get a grain bill figured out and your water volumes let me know and I will put them in the calculators and see if we get the same values. I can also put the numbers in Bru'n water also as a third ch...

Good job on your first brew day. The white stuff at the bottom could have been the chalk. From what I've read it doesn't dissolve well. I have never used it for that reason but since I have never used it I might be talking out of my arse. I am always excited to see the yeast starting to kick off. Le...

I am home now so I can add some specifics as examples of what I have found. 1) 12/28/13 Brewed an Amber from BCS Added 1gram Gypsum and 1.7 grams of CaCl2 to 3.36 gallons of RO water. Bru'n Water predicted a pH of 5.5. I ended up with 5.32. 2) 1/12/14 Brewed a Scottish 80 Ale from BCS Added 1.2 gram...

I have messing about with water for about 6 months now. I use Brun water, brewers friend and EZ water to compare. I started by checking pH about 3 times during the mash but now I just check at the end. EZ water has always predicted higher than what I usually get and the other two are pretty close. E...

I have been using Brewer's Friend, Bru'n Water and E-Z water calculator for my last 7-8 brews. I also have a pH meter. I build my water starting from RO water from the store. So far I have found Bru'n Water ( pain version) and Brewer's Friend Advanced (free) to be pretty close to what my actual read...

Milligan, too funny, I did the same thing with the plastic hydrometer tube. Melted it a bit. Kudos on being able to do so many other things while getting your beer brewed. I just sit and watch Brewing TV episodes and drink homebrew. I'm sure the beer will be tasty.

This is an update on this recipe. I would give it a 5 to 6/10. Drinkable but not worth repeating. I have failed as a man. Bad monkey!! No banana!!! Back to the drawing board. I think I will follow Contrarian and leave out the roasted barley/black patent.

NRB Amarillo Ale

Just cracked one of these open. It has been in the bottle for 2.5 weeks. This is a really good recipe! My wife even liked it and she usually only goes for dark beers. This is my first use of Amarillo hops and they are incredible! What a completely unique flavor and aroma profile. This will be a regu...
