      Hello all, thought I would give a try at making my own recipe for a stout. The base for the recipe is from BCS, the Triple-X recipe. I have brewed that one twice so far and liked it but was hoping to make some changes. I find I like my stouts a bit sweet with nice chocolate flavor but with the least amount of bitterness possible. I also like a thick, chewy beer as well. I posted my attempt at the BIABACUS with this recipe as well. Please feel free to shred it apart. Thank you for the help.

      Bottles this recently after steeping about 100g of cacao nibs and about 10 chopped red chilies in about 200mL of vodka for 5 days. Has added a bit more chocolate flavour but more important ya bit of the burn I was looking for. Can't wait to see how this comes up!

      Just cracked one of these open. It has been in the bottle for 2.5 weeks. This is a really good recipe! My wife even liked it and she usually only goes for dark beers. This is my first use of Amarillo hops and they are incredible! What a completely unique flavor and aroma profile. This will be a regular brew for me for sure. :champ:

   3. brew day review help

      I have been working on an American Amber Ale. This is version 3. It is basically the BCS recipe with Special B in place of the Crystal 120. The predicted pre boil gravity was 1.041. I ended up with 1.047 so I added 1200 ml of RO water to the sweet liquor prior to the boil. That dropped the gravity to 1.044 ( I wanted to add more but was out of RO water). The OG ended up pretty close to the predicted 1.052 ( 1.051 as best as I could tell with my equipment). My question is, how do I put my final...

      majorphill - Sorry major, I missed your post #5 above somehow. I'm guessing that monkey's VIB included his 1200 ml top-up. This plus a GIB of 1.044 gives him an EIB of 97.9% which is pretty possible on a small batch size where the bag can be squeezed a lot easier thatn a larger bag.

   4. Unit conversion

      Not sure if this was already mentioned but I tried using the unit conversion page for gallons to liters and it was giving me a wrong value. I entered 3.57 gallons and it gave me 16.23 Liters. It was supposed to be 13.51 Liters. Not sure if this is an actual error or an operator error.

      Hello, I am new to brewing, started at the beginning of the year with a one gallon kit from Northern Brewer, courtesy of my wife. Instantly fell in love with brewing but had one problem. I move every 3-6 months for work and everything, including my wife's stuff, has to fit into a Hyundai Santa Fe. I was really bummed bc I wanted to jump into AG brewing. Luckily I found this site and gave BIAB a try. I make small 1.5 to 2 gallon batches on the stove. I am on batch # 7 right now. Took your advice...
