Feedback on No-Chill

I've only used cubes that previously held wort or were bought new but I have neglected a few that grew some pretty funky stuff in them. I have managed to salvage them all with warm water and bleach soaking and then plenty or rinsing. I wouldn't use cubes that had any chemicals in them but anything t...

Crap boil

Well having and extra 8L on top of 25 is a big miss! On the plus side it looks like you can make beer without a boil! https://www.experimentalbrew.com/content/no-boil-experiment Very anecdotal but shows it is worth fermenting out to see how it comes up. Also seems accurate on the main problems you c...

Crap boil

That looks pretty serious! What size books are you doing? I know a few people who brew with a 3 ring burner with a medium flow regulator. That is in Australia where it doesn't really get that cold though!

Crap boil

No reason to bin it. It might be lower gravity than expected but it will still make beer! How big was the boil? What sort of regulator do you have? A medium or high adjustable flow reg might do the job rather than a new burner or a 2400W over the side electric element would give it a decent kick alo...

The full volume mash won't affect the IBUs at all, that is a function of the aa% of the hops, the amount of time they are exposed to boiling wort and also the gravity of the wort. If you can tell us the aa% of the hops it would help or even better, try putting your recipe into the BIABacus which wi...

How to see how easy BIAB is, Or why 3 vessel is not.

From a technical perspective elements of that may be correct but whether or not anyone can taste the difference in blind testing is more important. I'm sure I have also read about professional brewery's that use a single mash temp for some of their beers. BIAB is a quick, efficient and fun way to ma...

Belgium Saison

That looks like an interesting beer! Are you going for a reddish colour with the dark malts? I've done it before but it isn't to style in the traditional sense. I'm also wondering about the 20 minutes at 62 and the longer rest at 71. I would be inclined to swap the times around to make sure it finis...

How Much Precision Do You Use w/ Managing Mash Temperature?

I would be surprised if in a home brew environment anyone can accurately measure temperature of a mash within 1C accuracy with any degree of consistency and I would also question whether anyone could taste the resulting difference in the final beer! I think hitting a range for the mash is important ...

Wheat in a British Ale.

There shouldn't be any issue with just adding a percentage of wheat to an English pale ale recipe that you like and substituting some wheat for your base grain. A lot of Brewers I know only use ale malt and wheat malt for pale ales so of you started with a recipe of 80-90% Maris otter and 10-20% whe...

Saison receipe

Don't rush the yeast mate, it might have smashed through it early but it could easily get a few points lower than that! My goals for a saison is normally 1.002 and it's amazing how often they get there!

Rye Beer and Rice Hulls

I think the rye will only give you issues if you are recirculating. I've made beers with up to around 20% rye and other than a slightly slower drain than normal not had any issues. A fellow brewer made a 100% rye beer on his 3V system. His first attempt was a disaster but he managed on the second at...
