      One of the frustrations I have found with BIAB was that I was struggling to make high gravity beers. This is only a minor concern as I rarely brew high gravity but from time to time the situation arises and I want to give it a go.
      
      My current situation was that I have a yeast cake for a saison/Brett mix that has already made a saison so I was wanting to brew something big for the yeast cake. I also saw this as an opportunity to try a method for brewing high gravity that I thought would work...

      I had planned on doing something similar a while back adding base and specialty grains into the bag for the second beer. I never had the time on the planned day so it never happened. I am definitely going keep an eye on this to see how things progress.

   2. 1st case swap challenge 70+ IBU

      I have signed up for a case swap in February with the local brew club. I figured with 3 BIAB efforts behind me it would be good to have a specific challenge and much more importantly to be able to taste the variety of beers that this will bring.
      
      The only rule for the case swap is that the estimated IBU needs to be above 70! This is a serious challenge and I am worried about my ability to balance the IBUs in a way that will produce a beer that is drinkable, obviously something that was...

      As a bit of a follow up to this I brewed last weekend as a dry run for February, just in case it was a disaster. Malts were Maris otter 50%, pilsner 35%, Vienna 12%and about 3% crystal. The variety was mainly because I balked at using half a sack of Maris otter in an experiment!
      
      Used cascade and calypso with a 60 minute and 10 minute additions to 70IBU. Don't have the exact quantities handy at the moment.

   3. First AG BIAB SMASH

      Well last Sunday I finally made the leap to all grain and gave the BIAB rig I have been collecting bits and pieces for over the past couple of months a test run. I will mention where I got my gear from but I have no affiliation with these stores, just a customer.
      
      When putting the rig together I wanted to make sure it had the capacity to double batches. I have a young son and another one in the oven so the capacity to knock out twice as much beer in roughly the same amount of time was...

      Will track down those posts on taps PP, clearly there is not a unanimous perspective on this... This is one of the very few places you will be made aware of the potential for kettle taps to be a serious source of infection. And that is the perspective to take - one of awareness.
