Re: Double Mash Biab 1/2 then 1/2 - please advise water treatment?

I'm making a huge stout far to big for my equipment, the reiterating method involves splitting the grain into two in my case aprox 5kg and 5kg and then mashing the first portion as normal but with out a mash out step.  The grain is lifted out of the kettle but the still active enzymes and the sugars...

Double Mash Biab 1/2 then 1/2 - please advise water treatment?

I'm planning a Big Stout and I going to have to split my grain bill and I'd really appreciate your help. Related BYO article :-  https://byo.com/bock/item/1317-reiterated-mashing-m...

I've been reading around and it seem that I can split the mash. It would make a long day but I would get my RIS. Mash 1/2 full volume for min 90 mins, lift and squeeze. Sparge until up to volume, mash the other 1/2 for a couple of hours using the wort from the first mash, lift an squeeze. Check the ...

Sadly I've lost the batch, while I was worrying about the manual handling of 23 litres I forgot to drain the Starsan out of the FV. I'm gutted beyond belief!! I have a hernia and have to be very careful about lifting and while I still have a hernia I now have no beer :( Grrrrrrrrrrrrr........... So ...

It's not that good :- the recipes are OK but lack detail, the AG stuff is set up for three vessel, it's hard to find things like expected efficiency, on the positive side it has :- a yeast equivalent chart, a hop substitution chart, the recipes are simple. It was a good buy for £3 in a discount book...

I dug out a machine with a monitor big enough to run Biabacus, I'll use Biabacus for my next batch and post its output it should at least make fault finding easier. On the most basic level for a recipe from Greg Hughes book my pen and paper volume calculations matched those from Biabacus within abou...

Now that's a bother, like you I get most of my grain from The Malt Miller! I've scurried off to get my book I'll list up the details of the Spring Beer. pale malt 4000g munich 500g water treatment - Ashbeck from Tesco 20litres used for the mash. acid 2.2ml CaSo4 12.5g CaCl2 2.5g NaCl 1.07g from the ...

I don't control the grain milling as I buy grain ready milled, I think that is the cause of the of the low efficiency. Conversion has obviously occurred or I wouldn't be able to boost recovery with a simple rinse. The last batch went to about 78% after a rinse using bottled water, I didn't even both...

I put the box together to run a Nextgen BM clone, the section on the left runs the on/off pump cycle that BMs require, the other functions are PWM and PID and there is a switch to choose between them.

BIAB - the problem

Controller? I have two one can talk to a PC over a RS bus and can cycle a pump for a BM clone, the other simpler one is just a pid with a ssr and a PWM to control the boil easily. I've tried controlling a slow cooker with simple box when I was doing a mini mash and it worked surprising me well at ho...
