      I think I would like to try no chilling, but I suppose I would have to give up my auto siphon. And I should probably install a valve onto my kettle. That seems like the biggest hang up for me. Does anyone use a siphon for transferring hot wort?

   2. Volumes and Recipe

      I want to brew an english mild ale and I plugged my recipe into biabacus (see attached).
      If someone has the time to look over this and tell me if I've done it right, I'd appreciate it. I wish to make a 2.5 gal batch.
      my kettle is cylindrical and 14 w by 15 tall. Also, I thought up the recipe it might be totally crappy, so I'd appreciate any critique. I mostly want to be sure I'm going in the right direction so I don't have to bother everyone with questions that are too basic.

      Bruce ,PP showed me the light today. go to windows/default programs and change your default program to OpenOffice. Then you can open and save it as .xls.
      At least it worked for me.

   3. Total Water Needed

      I am somewhat confused about the amount of water needed to brew. I have seen instructions that say to use maybe 2 quarts of water per pound of grain for the mash, and the Biabacus for instance has a column of VIK. I assume that is the amount for mashing.
      Are these just two schools of thought, or have I missed a part of the equation.
      Any advice would be greatly appleciated.

      Yeah, I think that is what threw me. BIAB is too easy, and I thought I had to be doing something wrong.
