   1. Hopping in a french press

Just a quick question about when should I add my french press hop liquid to my FV.
Most people say to add near the end of frem. so the yeast can clean up the grassy tastes.
But how close to the end of frem.
Starting OG was 1.044 now at 1.020 wasjust wondering at what grav. should I add it.
Just out of intrest I will be adding 26gm of simcoe in 250ml press and add then repress another 250 mls and add.

      Hi Dick,
Yeh, when I use a new hop for the 1st time I like to use it all theway through just to checkout hop and see what it has to offer.

      Hi guys,

Just a thought, how often are you guys stiring during your mash.
I dough in stirring continuously making sure it is all mixed well, check temp, cover then leave.
I come back after 20 mins to check temp, while lid is off might as well give another stir.
After about 40mins check temp, another stir.
If I need to adj. temp. will stir continuosly.
after the 90 min mash take lid off, flame on to mash out temp, none stop stiring until I hit mash out.
Cover and leave for 10 - 15 mins after...

I'm a bit Catholic about my stirring. I feel guilty if I don't :dunno:.

There was quite a few different Subject headings I could have put in that would have had equally interesting comments

      Love it
I pretty much stir my mash if I have to check temp or raise temp (thought if I have to take the lid off might aswell give it a few pumps) other than that I just leave it.

      Just a quick question,
Don't know if it is going to be a silly one as I haven't totally thought it through
Was reading on here the other day about FWH and mash hopping and what it properties it gave to bittering and flavour profile of the hops before boiling.
      Now for the question.
If no-chilling after tranfering the hot wort to the cubes, at what temp can you (or should you? :interesting: )open the cube and enter an addition of hops.
Or would that just be to dangerous (ie: infections...

As you've worked out the big problem with opening up your cube once its cooled is infection.

      You contaminate your pasteurized wort

I wonder how long you will be able mature that keg Mex? :)

If it was me, it might get 2 weeks max.

Cool, so I'm not the only one :yum: Late last year I brewed a relatively high alcohol choc porter, with the intention to age it until the middle of winter 2011.

As of today there are three bottles left.

Might have to do it again soon, and let it age a bit for the September NSW comp. My only concern is that I dont know whether it's strictly a porter or a sweet stout  Damn...

      Thanks for the reply guys,
Ralph, the process has been quiet enjoyable thanks to the forum and all the tools available, would be quiet lost without the check list  the only hassle so far is fermenting really need a temp controller for my fridge.
Beachbum - was nearly going that direction with the Cararoma and red but went down the conservative route  thought I might have over did it.
the one thing I have noticed about S-04 is it went crazy points dropped from 1.048 down to 1.018...
