      How would I First Wort Hop using BIAB?
      I use a hop bag filled with pellets, I dont just dump the pellets in the wort and filter them later.
      
      Would I place the Hop bag in the bag (along with the grain) and perform a regular mash, then transfer the hop bag to the brew kettle for the normal boil?
      
      Someone posted about putting the hops bag in the brew pot after the mash, while waiting to boil, but that seems like just a longer boil. I though with FWH you want the hops exposed for a while at...

      Lylo, just looking at older/inactive threads.. That's great. I know a couple of dogs that are just that way. I don't know if grains that have had hop juice in them are bad. Certainly hops are. I put my hops in a bag or a large SS tea strainer. But, I'd rather not push the envelop with my lil' girl.

   2. Mash Thickness - how thin is too thin?

      I BIABed 32 Quarts for 10 pounds of grain with diastatic power and for the first time, didn't hit 70%. Maybe it was the crush, but I'm wondering of 3:2 Q : 1 LB is a bit too thin. I mashed at 150F, dropping to 148 over an hour. I even heated it to 155 and let it drop to 148 for 15 minutes extra. I did squeeze the bag, but no sparge, and no mash out.
      
      Have any of you noticed a problem with very thin mashes? (count only the grain with diastatic power).

      The site that originally developed 'The Converter' have thrown the towel in apparently but admin (NME) is investigating whether or not he can make it work again for us somehow. In the meantime, to get good answers, it might be necessary for us to give our figures in metric and US. Liquor to grist ratios are one of the hardest ratios to convert and even The Converter would not solve this. Here you go...

   3. Excessive TRUB from BIAB

      Some BIAB brewers said they get up to a gallon (almost 4 liters) of Trub for a 5 gallon (20 liter) batch. That seems like a lot.
      
      How much Trub do you get when using BIAB compared to traditional mashing?
      
      Is it because we can crush finer? Maybe the mag weave is too coarse?

      There's a fair bit of mythology about on BIAB trub. There are many things to consider when 'lautering' and most of these things are actually irrelevant to BIAB.
      
      Here's a few things off the top of my head...
      
      Preventing Trub into the Boil
      
      1. Is a bit of trub/cloudiness bad in the boil? - No.

   4. Malt Conditioning For Biab - Is It Beneficial?

      For traditional mashing, using a mash tun, some brewers will condition their malt. This consists of misting the grains with a fine mist, mixing them around, letting them sit for a while, then crushing them. This results in less husk damage, and less dust.
      
      Is this beneficial for BIAB? Brew in a Bag never has a stuck sparge, so what do I care if the husks are a bit shredded, provided my bag is fine enough to retain them?

      Probably the moisture give more strength and in the same time elasticity to the hull and while milling the endosperm just slide out from the hull without breaking much and eventualy leads to less flour .But the drawback is that you need more power as Bob mentioned and in some cases if you use a weak drill probably it will be damaged or overheat.
      In Biab probably IMHO again would lead to less trub but I can't tell about mash efficiency .I will give it a try sometime just for the record.

   5. Stirring after dough in

      When I add the grains, I stir them in well. Then close up the pot for an hour.
      
      How much does stirring every so often, say every 15 minutes, affect efficiency compared to no stirring for the full hour?
      (No stir doesnt mean dump the grains in and dont stir, they have to be stirred in. Instead it means leaving the mash alone after a few minutes)

   6. First Wort Hopping / during mashing

      How well would this variation of First Wort Hopping work?
      
      If I place my flavor hops (15 minute addition) into a hops bag, and add the bag to my mash, keep the hops bag in the kettle while I bring it to boiling, and then remove it at boil time, will i get similar flavor to those who do a first wort hopping while sparging?

   7. Useful Brewing Gloves, and this is the bag I bought

      These glove ($6 USD) enabled me to directly hold the hot wort bag and squeeze it. After a number of seconds I would have to shift hands. But they still did a very good job of protecting my hands while allowing me enough dexterity to brew.
      
      This is the bag I used for brewing. It worked well.
      
      It was $8 , and its cotton, and it shrank (from 24 to 21 ) but it was all I could find in New Jersey.

   8. good quality and inexpensive 5 gallon/19 liter Brew Pots $20

      Much sturdier than other 5 gallon pots. Comes with a glass dome lid ,that did NOT break when I dropped it in the store :dunno:

   9. Draining wort from the grain bag

      After you lift the bag, you naturally want to get as much liquid out as practical.
      
      Someone said they got a lot more runnings by holding the bag up, than by placing it in a colander.
      
      Another person said what they do is place the bag in a plastic bucket, suspended so its not touching the bottom, and press it against the side with a pot lid.
      
      Others say they place the bag on top of a grill/grate, not a colander.
      
      Another said they press the bag with a pot lid.
      Another said they press the bag...
