      I've come up with a technique to squeeze the most wort possible out of the grain bag. I made an attempt at a video that shows how I do it.

      Interesting method. We've been doing an on-going experiment wherein we have been measuring gravity at the end of a standard mash and then again at the the end of the mashout. A lot of us then squeeze the bag before we begin the boil. The interesting part?......squeezing the shit out of the bag does absolutely nothing at all for increasing gravity, it only raises the pre-boil volume.       Not sure if you guys saw the BIAB video that Northern Brewer/Brewing TV did in January 2012, but they seemed pretty enamored with this method.

      Maybe we're all just too sensitive about it. I think once a new-AG'er realizes he can make great beer via BIAB that's just as good as with a 3V system, he's going to question the value of spending lots of money on a separate mash tun and BK.

      Hello again fellow BIAB'ers!
      
      I've been struggling with how to maximize wort extraction from the grain bag after mashing is complete. While we claim that a stuck sparge can't happen with our beloved method, I have been reading a bit about the fluid dynamics of liquid flow through a grain bed (Appendix F of John Palmer's How to Brew book), and how it might differ with BIAB versus traditional lautering in a cooler-type mash tun.

      After trying several different ways teh one that works best for me is to place the bag on an oven rack, over the pot, after it's drained for a few minutes, and squeeze it (with gloves) and press it down on the over rack. I seem to get a lot of wort out that way.

      Hey All,
      My local brew shop held its annual Customer Appreciation day yesterday and I attended. I got there a bit late, so everyone was already pretty happy , having consumed numerous samples of others homebrew that was brought to share.
      
      Yesterday at the party Phil came up to me as I was evangelizing BIAB to a newbie (currently extract brewing), and he says, Hey, how's that Brew in A Curtain thing going? I had to laugh because he remembered that I used a voile curtain to make my bag.

      It's true! When I started with my club I was a 3V brewer. I brewed that way for 2+? years. It just seemed inefficient or somehow less than satisfactorily to me. I was looking at single vessel brewing using termite barrier? (a stainless steel mesh) to use as a bag. I was just about to order some mesh when I saw a story in (BYO - Brew Your Own)...
